Indin Economy vs Agricultual Production
by Vetaikurumugankao Ramanathan on Mar 07, 2010 08:06 AM  | Hide replies

Sir, The cost of agricultural produce is very high in India. Unless the spiral of periodical increasing wages of organized sector/industries and government staff, which in turn results in higher and higher prices of agricultural produce as a whole, affecting the whole Indian population, including the unorganized 75% of agricultural farmers and lbourers, is reversed into a price reducing system, the food inflation and cost of living will be going higher and higher. The government should concentrate in taking steps to reduce the cost of food products, by reducing increasing the productivity( yield per acre), so that, not only wage earners in organized sector, but also the whole population is benefitted.V.K.Ramanathan, Thane

Indian economy on a roll: Auto sales soar
by Hebbar R on Mar 06, 2010 09:52 PM  | Hide replies

Surely the Auto segment is doing well. And looks like the Govt does not like it. What other justifiction could there be for increasing Taxes on Automobiles. That is still ok. But, the increase in taxes on petrol and diesel will surely break the backs of middle income and upper middle income groups. What with the already high (and still increasing) food inflation. Sometimes, it is difficult to understand the logis of highly qualified economists!!!

The logic is simple: It is innate human psyche to envy, tax and try to bring down the most successful and productive among them. This happens all over the world.

Is it sustainable
by kalyan chakrawarthy on Mar 06, 2010 05:52 PM

Given that these auto sales are backed by strong stimulus packages announced by the govt in lending easy loans, for how many days it is sustainable. Are we into another bubble burst?
