What a shame. The real problem here is power cuts, and the PRESIDENT of the country is celebrating creation of jugaad's by poor people to earn their living. Man, this is not where I thought India would be after all these years!
Thomas alva edison was school drop out at the age of 16.Michael faraday could not complete his high school education. Benjamin franklin was also the same care. The list of such people are more. Still these people were able to achieve many things in their life. But in a country like india where people and management simply go behind qualification. Our education system and universities are meant only to sell the degrees. I can show thousands of example who have done master's and PHD did not have basic(fundamentals) knowledge. Tell me how can the country grow.
journos who lack basic scientific education an engine with simple modifiaction can be used to power many devices including aata chakki , this is the same as some media people were promoting 2 strokes car developed by college students in rajasthan , many final yr engg students have claimed to dev fuel efficient cars which are nothig but a 2 stroke engine mounte don four wheels
well u will come across lots of these jugaad innovations now a days... some guy using his bicycle dynomo to charge mobile phones.. some farmers using automobile scraps and 2nd hand cheap diesel engine to make delivery van that carry their crops to local market..all these needs just practical experience and presence of mind rather then a genius brain...

have u done like this before?i want to see your genius brain.btw what is this genius brain?
The need of this invention or 'Jugad' borne out of daily blackouts of power. Is Pratibha patil humane enough to feel pain of people the we have in our daily lives due to these power cuts. Can she at least promise the country to do her bit in getting the country rid of these cuts.? Or she is just a camera happy person like she looks?

Well dude this can not be called innovation if you think this is then let me tell you some 60% of generators running in North India are from discarded Diesel Vehicles which are coupled with generator to produce electricity producing great noise and pollution. Yamaha Bikes were stolen because it's engine was used to run motorboats.
This guy has coupled a 7 HP schooter engine to an Atta Chakki and that is what most mechanics in India do for different applcations like Compressor , generator the difference is that they prefer Old Diesel vehicles due to cost and also Diesel engine provides more torque.
What Mr. jahangir has done is known as PTO ( Power Take Off) and was in use in Jeeps and Tractors for ages to run Farm equipments such as thrashers and almost all villagers in India He has added PTO to 2 wheeler engine. There exists an ISO 500 standard for PTO as well which defines size of shaft and coupling to be used. From Mr. Jahagir's point of view it is laudable and an innovation as he may have not known it earlier ( giving him benifit of doubt) but from NIF point of view can adding a PTO coupling to an engine be called innovation ? Perhaps they could have helped him by providing standard for PTO so that more off the shelf machines can be run using scooter engine.
In desi lingo such things are known as Jugaad and citing them as great innovation is not very helpful.
If Mr.Jahangir could have studied, he would have become a normal engineer or technicians, mostly its the School drop out think bigger and achieve bigger..there are many examples.
NEccessity is the mother of Invention.Jahangir has proved it.1st getting married, then 7 kids then a thought how to meet expenses. One thig is for sure,he has not to hire workmen from outside.A inbuilt team.If more persons required, marry his sons one by one.Great idea.NO?
