Stop Civil Engineering Stream !!!
by Skewed on Feb 03, 2010 03:00 PM  | Hide replies

Amongst all engineers, it is civil engineers whose life style is pitable with most of them work on peanuts salary . Even found that most of them end up after 4 year course doing mobile, website, space marketing job or call centre job. Unemployment ratio is high amongst civil engineers.

Moreover, treatment given to them is pitable in society . Their salary is worse than plain vanila graduates with little growth prospects. Though they learn during academic life Construction Management and Building Materials technology , they are hardly found to be employed by construction materials manufactures to promote technical marketing of building materials.

Even in R& D centres doing research of building materials technology or construction methodology , civil engineers are not being employed. Builders treat them at lower rank with most of them pay salary which is difficult to meet hand with mouth. After every project, they are transferred or even asked to look for another opportunity. With realty scenario turning worse , it is high probable that civil engineers will be in less demand. Under such circumstances, it is better if we wipe out this course from engineering domain and prevent civil engineers from harassment. No Govt body is even hiring civil engineers these days.

Civil Engg -once a mother of all engineering is gradually loose its sheen because of dumb and deaf society. People think Civil engineers are just meant for brick and mortar and many organisation or builders treat them disdainfully. Infrastructure development is a farse. Realty is big ballooning with no substance in it. Most of the realtors do not have civil engineers.

NITs may be a brilliant engineers but they are poor in playing office politics . Therefore, they fail to scale up and had to always look for jobs . NITs are almost equal to IITs ,but iitian and nitian are failure in corporate life with most do teaching profession in academic institutes. Unfortunate for India Inc. If they have to be successful, they should go abroad.

NIT Engineers have worse story to tell. Just name few big construction firms name and find out how many NITians are there. You are getting jobs because you r in Maharashtra. Other NITs better than yours like NIT-Trichy, Motilal -Allahabad, Warangal have worse story to tell about Civil Engineering placement.

I dont agree to the generalisation that all civil engineers are pid peanuts. Howver, compared to other engineering branches, there is lesser market demand for civil engineering. I guess one of the reasons may be that civil engineers tend to stay in a technical role for a longer time compared to say, an Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical/Computer engineer. Hence the supply of civil engineers has surpassed the demand. The best solution would be to remove B. tech level civil engineering courses from mid ranking colleges and allow only IITs and a few selected NITs to teach B. Tech level civil engineering. Once the demand supply ratio gets skewed, civil engineers would be in demand again.

in 1990 mr anil bhat professor of machine design used to go to sardar patel college andheri to fail 30 be students out of 60 and in turn madam shobha pandit used to fail 30 out of 60 so it is the ego of professor of engineering college that failed students in oral exams. actually i recommend to stop any pension to mr. anil bhat as well as shobha pandit for spoiling first class of many be electrical students in mumbai university area. doctor anil mokashi was also miser examiner who failed many students even if he did not know how to teach engineering subjects. so it is engineering colleges like VJTI that are resposible for this unemployment so kapil sibbal if happen to read this mail stop pension of anil bhat and shobha pandit also ?
