Sir, what is the use of such a growth when crores of rupees are eaten away by politicians? Inspite of such a growth the economy of India is going down by these scanles. Is it not true?

GDP growth!
by Srinivasan Iyer on Jan 01, 2011 09:17 AM

GDP increase is because of higher prices of even Govt controlled goods, higher consumer prices, more indirect taxes. We are going the US way and may soon fall on our noses!

Is high GDP a solution?
by Srinivasan Iyer on Jan 01, 2011 09:12 AM

The present Govt headed by an economist lays so much t stress o9n GDP growth which is coming from the middle class spending and top high end businessmen. The poor are yet where they are. But the worst blot in our society is corruption. Here I dont just blame the politicians or bureaucrats, but the bribe givers who have so much black money to further their own ends. We need guidelines and rules/laws that are clear and decisive and give no scope for discretionary interpretation. The 2G scam is one such example! Indian society at large is to be equally blamed for the prevalence of corruption. So where do we start! Every man or woman should be honest!! It is also sad that our judiciary/army have become suspect!

GDP..and Indian Taxes
by vijaya vittal on Jan 01, 2011 06:45 AM  | Hide replies

I was in USA for a period of one year...and was just amused to find the citizens so RULE-fearing!!Yes even if you buy a small burger costing 1 Dollar you will get a bill along with Tax on it...and where do we stand?? Transactions worth Millions of Rupees take place every day and hardly 5% are billed with Taxes, it is everybody's knowledge that the traders pass on Tax officials their Hafthas every month denying the Government its due Taxes , both to the State / Central Govt..the country would have progressed still better and our GDP would also grow in double digits if only our business men are responsible and patriotic and above all the Tax Department should be ruthless in collecting Taxes..Sales Tax and Commercial Taxes. Even a wayside Cafeteria collects Taxes in USA and pass it on to the Govt and where do we stand??and our Politicians speak about subsidys..blah..blah..

Why is this corrupt Congress Government no cancelling the higher denomination notes like Rs.500 and Rs.1000 notes, so that all the black money comes out and used for the benefit of the country and to reduce drastically the corruption since big notes facilitate corruption . I would even suggest cancellation of Rs.100 notes also. This will also stop the circulation of duplicate notes of Rs.500 and Rs.1000.It will also dry up the transfer of funds by the terrorists.

India needs clean government that does not concoct GDP

Any little recognition that Indians get is from achievement by the overseas activities of PIO and NRI, but these are more than offset by abysmal state of India. That is why despite having a large number; Indians are the least respected ethnic group across the world. Let us just look how pathetic it all is:
1.      India is Jungle of lawlessness with police, bureaucrats and judges are now become just as corrupt and incompetent as politicians. Imagine 6 children go missing every day in Delhi alone, millions wait for decade for justice and more pathetically rich and powerful buy justice as a matter of fact.
2.      No other nation will allow PM stay in power once he has been shown to be as incompetent, weak and prone to manipulation as MMS. His defence by his supporters in fact says much about the extent of criminalization of the Congress party, which is nothing more than Sonia Gandhi Fan Club. They say MMS is honest! Really should not all people serving in the government be honest? It clearly suggests that honesty is a rare commodity in this fan club.
3.      Lack of prosecution of politicians, judges and civil servants despite massive.
