These are petty tactics
by Anurag Sharma on Jan 02, 2011 02:31 PM

Company officials citing technical issues as a hindrance to implementing the restrictions are fooling the govt. Govt should act tough and tell them that if they dont have the technical system in place, they do not have a right to make telemarketing calls or SMS...

Why to make people suffer because of these companies' inability (or rather unwillingness) to implement the restrictions. Let these companies suffer for their own inabilities.

Why do we need the TRAI when its directives are being directly flouted by the Service providers. Why could they not set a deadline for the providers. We are really being taken for A RIDE.

Deadline was set... It was Jan 1 2011...but these companies did not meet the deadline. They do not want to take implement the restrictions. And are asking for one more year to implement this.

It is big money.
by latha latha krishnan on Dec 27, 2010 03:38 PM

For us, the consumer, it is pesky and irritable. But for the intruders it is big money. For e.g. these people approach Reliance and pay them as much as Rs.100 for one number reference! So, if Reliance gives them 100 numbers, they get Rs.10,000. In turn these operators call these 100 unsuspecting people and actually ( data indicates) they are successful with 7 people out of a hundred. They earn 6000 per person by way of commission from the actual promoters ( for eg. Omaxe, BPTP, Jewellery shops etc. India is the only place in the whole world where such nonsense happens and the govt does nothing because they get their share. best way is to insult these callers so much that they leave this kind of job and move to actual jobs.

TRAI Regulations
by anantesh shanbhag on Dec 27, 2010 01:40 PM  | Hide replies

In continuation to the report, there is a fear of direct loss of job/livelihood of over 1600000 employed at various telemarketing companies across India. Most of the telemarketing companies hire people from the economically backward section who are normally non-employable, hence creating a career opportunity for them in the booming domestic BPO industry. Telemarketing companies are a stepping stone for those who want to have a career in a BPO. After gaining some experience in Telemarketing companies, these people are hired by other big BPO companies.
Indirect job loss can be pegged at 600000 across India in the field of verification services, data entry services, courier services, printing and stationary, telecom and other sundry services

The survival of this unorganized sector is at stake because of the implementation of the policy on as is where is basis. There are difficulties in adhering to these stringent norms specified by TRAI and that an end has come to this sector that has gainfully provided employment for the last 20 years. Unless Government intervenes, nothing much can be done to save the loss of so many jobs and closure of micro and small enterprises.
In countries like US, there is a $ sign that gets displayed on the screen for every tele-marketing call. If you want you can answer the call and if you don't want to answer, then ignore the call.

We all need to look at the same in a macro view.

Employment is not a justifiable cause for unsolicited trespass of ones individual right to privacy. How disturbing and annoying these calls and SMSs are not a matter of debate. For many, the unwanted SMSs has left the facility of useful SMS useless.
The service providers are reluctant as they would be losing some revenue. No further time should be allowed and the real culprit must be brought under law.

good to see that you are concerned about those who are working for the company, but can you tell me who has given them the right to disturb you on your mobile even if you are in the meeting or just coming out of your operation theatre where you have lost the life and suddenly you heard a voice "WANT TO MAKE FRIEND"... you are talking just bullshit nothing else..When you own any number then it means there should be privacy on your number.. why I should give attention to them whom i don't know...728zb

Its a dilemma always. But I spend a sizeable amount of time deleting all the unwanted unsolicited sms and calls. Sometimes the callers are rude when you tell them upfront you dont need anything. You can ignore the calls with $ sign. What about sms. They linger and they have to be "taken care of"

Fine the pesky callers and the operators a couple of hundred crores and they will be scurrying for cover and find solutions immediately But in our country where murderers, scamsters and rapists get away scot free, this sort of a nuisance will never get resolved.
