Ill gotten how? He's worked for every dime he has today. And more importantly, he donates a LOT to charity, not just token money that Indian billionaires give to get tax breaks.
Now, why 5 tycoons? why not 6 or 7 or 100? Also, what is the criteria for listing these 5 only? How do you connect the dots? What is the point that you are making?
Bangalore: Mahatma Gandhi once said "The soul of India lives in its villages' and today a villager from Guwahati has made his vision true and acceptable to the world. Kanak Das, resident of a remote village near Guwahati has created a simple device which converts the shocks received by his bicycle into acceleration energy, so he doesn't have to peddle for a few metres after negotiating a pothole.
Finally the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, U.S., has taken up by his idea and is conducting further research on how to channelize the energy created in shock observers of vehicle into the acceleration.
Anil Gupta, Professor at IIM-A, who presented his idea to the MIT said, "Kanak Das came up with this innovation to seek a solution to the bad roads of his village, and when I showcased his idea to the students of MIT, they immediately adopted it, as it can bring huge change in automobile technology..
Assam is serially producing one after another innovation with a budding group of innovators Such as Indrani Medhi(low cost computer),Udhav Bharali, total 80 innovations(Pomegranate deseeder, areca nut pillar, etc),Kanak Gogoi(low cost solar car, electrical energy from street bumpers, etc),Pradeep Sharma and IIT Guwahai(Deep Bahan,a ricshaw which needs less manual labour to pull),etc for example...
In mexico the cost of local call cost 3 Peso ( approx 12 INR). So in each call they earn 95% more from any Indian telecom company. And Due to bad policy of Mexico ( because of huge corruption) they don't entertain any other telecom company in there country.
Rediff should remove him from this list, if they really want to put any one here it could be Bharti Telecome or any other leading provider in the world, who are providing technology in the affordable price.

I agree. Riches due to bad policy is no qualification.
I also think that that the first four - Gates, Jobs, Ellison, and Page - were either great techies or great salesmen. So it makes sense to nominate the Five Most Influential Techies rather than Tech Barons.
I nominate the guys who wrote the Stuxnet worm for the No. 1 spot.
Any other believers for the theory that the Stuxnet worm caused the recent failure of India's Agni and Prithvi launches?
Re: Re: Carlos Slim Helu is rich due to bad policy in mexico

Er... hard to see that happening. The stuxnet worm works by undetectabily changing the power delivered to nucelar centrifuges causing the overall system to fail. The Agni or Prithvi don't use centrifuges so how would stuxnet affect those?

Stuxnet targets the PLCs, not the machines, obviously.
All missiles (and satellites) use PLCs. By the way, Stuxnet also brought dwon INSAT 4 in July this year

Antik... "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt" Read and Inform yourself before giving an opinion, what you say it's only your misinformed point of view; First, the cost per local call in Mexico is $1.30 pesos (around 11 cents U.S)and only after the first 100 free calls that are included in a $70. USD package that also comes with 10MB Broad band internet, and free national and and international unlimited long distance calling. Second, there are a few other telecommunication companies in Mexico, Alestra (formerly AT&T), Axtel, Maxcom, Megacable and Cablecom. And third, Carlos Slim was worth over 40 million USD in his mid 20's mainly from one of his credit and insurance companies Imbursa, not to mention that he comes from one of the richest families in Mexico with a huge real state business background; By the time Mr. Slim acquired from the government the 49.1% stock he owns in telmex he was already a multimillionaire from several other companies he owns, and not only he greatly improved the telecommunications technology and services at very affordable prices since he took over Telmex as a CEO, he also owns telecommunication companies in the U.S.A, central and south America, and Europe, providing services just to mention some, ranging from local land lines, cellular services, internet, and HD tv, at very competitive prices. And forth and last, Don't get me started on corrupt

Sorry my forth point got cut off. Forth... Don't get me started on corruption in your third world under developed country..!!
Income tax: Men pay more tax than women earning the same salary. Buses/Trains : Coaches and seats are reserved for women but not for men. Maternity leave : Mothers get maternity leave, but fathers dont get paternity leave. Ministry : Women have separate ministry for themselves, but men are treated worst than animals. Child custody : During divorce women are given preference whereas fathers suffer. Law : Women can harass men , but men cant harass women it is against law. Life expectancy : Women live longer than men.
Men are not treated by society and law. Should men fight for rights?

Child Custody - it is hard for men to gain custody and that is indeed unfortunate. Still courts have a responsibility to look after the interests of the child and on balance, those interests are better protected by the mother than by the father. That said, I agree the courts need to be more open to the possibility that the man might make for a better custodian than the mother.
Law - er women can harass men? I seemed to have missed the section fo the Indian Civil of Criminal law which allows this. Perhaps you can point it out.
Life Expectancy. As do tortoises, redwood trees and some species of bacteria - your point is?
Perhaps you should start cross dressing and try to experience life as an Indian woman for a month or so. Then you will have better claim to be taken seriously.

What a moron! Here are some counter facts
Income - Women save their income for their children and for things like education and medical costs. Men spend it on alcohol and other vices (not all men obviously but at the margin where such laws attempt to make a difference)
Transport - Men pinch women's butts or in other ways harass them. Haven't come across too many examples of women groping men in public transport.
Maternity leave. Are you even a parent? Do you have any idea of what pregnancy does to the female body plus the demands on a new mother? Men should get and often do get Paternity leave of 2 weeks. Women get it for 3 months and more because they have to feed the baby and look after it - too many indian males will refuse even to change a nappy.
Ministry - What are the issues you want a Ministry for Men to address? Is it the freedom to drink their wages away? Is it the freedom to wife beat? Is it the freedom to commit polygamy? Freedom to eve-tease? A Ministry For Women is needed because there are multiple issues where women's rights are violated by male behaviour, where males basically attack / degrade women. What example of the reverse can you demonstrate that show the need for a ministry of men
