I have found in several Indian malls that when I want to visit a particular shop, the security at the counter will say keep your bag at the counter.Am I a thief? This is a direct attack on my credibility,I cannot accept it.So,I rarely visit such malls/shops.
But never in China, any body ever told me to keep the bag at the counter.
Now tell me,when there is close circuit camera systems, why do you need to insult a prospective customer ask him to keep his bag at the counter?

Better visit USA. You will be asked to strip . Who knows some one may carry bombs and it is big security risk. Let the security do the job and respect him. Donot compare with china or other countries.

I call BS on that. Once you get past the airport in the US, each person enjoys complete freedom. Dont just read papers and develop your own opinion of what happens inside the US. In the western world in no mall is one person supposed to keep their bag - because they trust people. If they had done that in India - most stores would start getting bankrupt.

fully agree Arindam. It is the nature of people that force the rules. But I was wondering why one needs to leave the bag at the counter when you have those machines at the exit to scan any unpaid stuff. Dont those machines work?

I can understand if there is some sense to the Rules. Its not the big luggage or airport check in bag they ask to keep at the counter, but also the mens hand bag. even a small one. but the same security persons will allow ladies hand bag. that means if they are not exposed to men carrying hand bags, they will have thier own set of rules, or then its gender discrimination, something like "women can not shop lift"

I don't know, which country your belonging.. but let me know you that..we indians are already gone through from terrorist attacks..so for these type of security reasons..security guards tell you to keep you bags outside. And as you told..there is circuit cameras available then why they are telling this..so the ans is..there are so many techniques available to fool those cameras..so plz when you come to indias mall obey there rules..

To build such big malls first we need to build spacious approach roads and proper parking space ,which we donot have..

The Mall of America in Minnesota, USA, is the third largest mall in North America, after the West Edmonton Mall, in Edmonton, Canada, and the King of Prussia Mall....
Rediff is a big loser as usual, and same time it's employees are ving very poor IQ.
SM Mall of Asia Location: Pasay City, Philippines. It is the 3rd largest shopping mall in the world. Where in Rediff's list it is not even in top 15. Good joke..u big loser. And the horrible thing is till 2004 "West Edmonton Mall", Alberta, Canada was the largest shopping mall since 1981. But it is not in the list of top 15, and at present it is in top 5 list of Forbes magzine. You may check both names in google and show these big losers in Rediff.
