Diesel
by Ranga Swamy on Dec 10, 2010 01:20 PM

Govt to allow only commercial vehicles to be using diesel as long as it gets subsidy at the cost of petrol, please note it is the income tax paying public that is supporting subsidiary on diesel, when is the govt going to wake up, is it this govt or the other party next govt. this subsidy can go into education, infrastructure, health, defense, fighting terrorists, think about it before buying vehicle for personal use and refrain from buying a diesel vehicle for non-commercial use.

Do Indians need small cars or small house first.
Indian economy will be on roll once affordable housing starts.
Mind it,we will be ruling the whole world the day the policy makers frame strategy for House for All.
Unfortunately, our policies are driven with the principle of supporting the wrong cause of money eyed businessmen.
Media as usual is to be blame for the poor state of economic affairs in India.

It is not a question of car OR house, we need BOTH. It was this myopic view of the pre-1990 era, which is responsible for the sorry state of our economy. China and South Korea were poorer than us in 1947; see where they are today.

Telephones were considered a luxury, we had to wait for 10 years to get a telephone. There was, of course, the MP quota;just pay Rs 25,000/- and get one on priority (25 Thousand back then is about 2.5 lakhs today) For getting a scooter, we had to wait for 10 years. We had to pay a license fee every year for the privilege of owning a radio and there were inspectors who visited your house and checked whether you paid your licence fee.

Wealth has to be created before it is distributed. Foolish policies will only makes us poorer. Do you want to go back to the Nehruvian era when the we did not grow enough grain to feed our people even though the population was just 350 million? Can you suggest an alternate economic policy?
Back then, one had to buy cement in black, even though we had all the raw materials in abundance; the Govt did not allow people to set up cement factories.

For building a house, you require steel and cement; these require power, diesel, mining, infrastructure, finance and above all qualified manpower. Why should people spend years acquiring qualifications and work hard if they cannot look forward to a better lifestyle?

Talk sense or refrain from illogical criticism. Can you suggest a feasible, alternate policy?

(Continuation)
For cheap, affordable housing, the Govt needs to subsidise it to the tune of lakhs of crores; for this, the Govt should earn money by taxation. Only taxes on business activities can generate this kind of money.

The Governments we elect divert all the money meant for public coffers into their private coffers, be they the Politicians or the Bureaucrats. So, blame not the policies or small cars, blame the theives who keep us poor.

Why cant Tata build Nano Houses. They have been saying it for years with hardly any headway in this direction.
Surprisingly, the coterie around CEOs do not have knowledge about the pocket of general public so their claim of Affordable House @ Rs.25 lakhs make a good joke of our system.
