Nothing is gonna happen in this country and we have to live with telemarketers. I prefer using blocking software like xblockr on my phone to get rid of these telemarketers and that is the best way.
As with all legislation and rules in India, the need is not in having rules but in their effective implementation. Let's hope TRAI gets its act together this time around. Most recommendations seem good and should be effective, if carried out efficiently.
Having been at the receiving end of pesky calls/SMSs for a long time - despite having registered in NDNC long back - I welcome the new regulations of TRAI. While the new rules seem customer-friendly and more stringent (for telemarketers), whether and how effective it will be remains to be seen. Though I have complained to my mobile operator several times they simply pass the buck by saying that these pesky / unsolicited calls / SMSs are from unregistered telemarketers. I'm not sure how TRAI will reign in such TMs, but the new rules should be a huge relief to those like myself, who are often on "roaming". For now, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Same problems faced by me, who is holding on to Post-Paid from AIRTEL. After 12 months of abuse and repeated complaints, now, I have threatened AIRTEL with claims for damages and am reporting all such SMS/ Calls to them for immediate action. Last, there has been action taken. Why don't you report the SPAMMER(s)..to be rid of the evil..Just sharing my simple thoughts..to be of help..friend...

Same here. I've also noticed that such calls / SMSs seem to increase in frequency whenever I am on "roaming" profile. Seems a scam here too. Let's hope the new rules work well.
In India for some reason fines are peanuts...none of teh fines are really heavy on anyones pocket...only way to get things in place in India is use heavy fines...may it be telemarketing, spiting, speeding, bribary or anything to that matter.
TRAI left a gap for pesky calls. The unregistered telemarketer will be warned on first offence and disconnected on second. I used to receive most of the SMS from unregistered telemarketer. They should have also been penalised heavily. Even if they get disconnected, they will get the new number allocated and start ooding the users.
It is good move by TRAI but I don't think the phone users get benefit as the telemarketers have the technology to hide their identity by using 00000000 instead of their real phone number.
