Innovation for the people
by Iype J on Aug 20, 2010 09:36 AM

What these Foundations and others show-case are innovations created by those who have a habit of tinkering! From childhood we have all had friends who tinkered around with hardware in the house, but later went on to become poets or journalists or whatever!

True innovation is that which brings benefit to the people.

For that to happen, innovators must get rewarded!

The present system of Science and Research in India is just like BSNL about 20 years ago. To get a phone repaired, you had to call the MP to intervene. That problem was solved by allowing others to operate in telecom - the real liberalisation!

This monopoly that made BSNL an 'establishment' had to be removed for real benefit to tricle to the people.

Similarly, we need to liberalise Education, Science and Research in this country. I want to see a day when the same names (Mashelkar, CNR Rao etc, just examples, not trying to be specific) are not the ONLY once heard (that too for decades), but a hundred other names are heard.

Just as the sound of Airtel, Reliance, Idea, Vodaphone, Tata and others is so sweet when put alongside BSNL, let there be many others besides this 'establishment' only.

Let us liberalise Education, Science and Research! Let many others be allowed to set up Schools, Colleges, Universities, Research Labs etc. Let benefits of these really go to the people. Let India's real potential be released!

value our innovations

Innovations are plenty in India but they arent valued. No system is in place to highlight innovations & reward the innovator. Engineers in India are forced to go into irrelevant jobs, e.g mechanical engineer joins Infosys. Graduation is seen as an earning tool rather than a learning step.

India may have large pool of Talent because of Population.
But india is never an innovation land.
All these innovation are long back done by other countries.
Indian primary education is good but it never allows a kids to think innovatively , either they pushed into engineering to join some outsourcing countries where they do JUNK outsourced low quality work.
The parents mentality need to change to become india as an innovation destination.
