I suppose in addition to the pyramid theory he popularised the idea of core competence for organization to show difference and survive threats with his own interpretations and explanations.. He is a great model to be followed and certinly made lot of impact on Indians on management thinking arena.

He is a good thinker no doubt. But, his concept of bottom of the pyramid was nothing new. It was Cavinkare MD CK Ranganathan's father Chinni Krishnan and brother Velvette Rajkumar who pioneered the BoP Concept with their revolutionary shampoo sachette of Velvette and Chik. Attributing that to CKP is not fair. Also, it is nothing new as a concept it is only the process of segmenting and targetting. For westernworld with gas guzzling cars and over usage of any resource, the BoP concept looked novel.

CK Prahalad may not be the most perfect man or management thinker. Nobody is for all have some flaws. But one cannot deny that CK was one of the greatest management gurus of our times, he was brilliant, analytical and incisive with a clear idea about the subject. He made India proud with his work and raised the prestige of our nation in the most advanced nation in the world, USA.

Dear Sir, CK never claimed that he invented the BoP concept or he owns the concept. He only propounded the concept backed with scientific and logical power. He cites lot of existing businesses who were adopting the BoP concept even before he wrote the book. CK's forte is conceptualizing and BoP is one of the acclaimed concepts propounded by him. He is undoubtedly one of the greatest management thinker and intellectual of our time.

When do we stop being cynical.Even Late CK did not claim to be the owner of the concept BOTTOM OF THE PYRAMID concept but was definitely the one who popularized and conveyed the content. If someone else had poineered the concept fine give due credit to them .Equally it was CK who brought out the practical aspect which has been acclaimed though out the world. And CK had proved what a brilliant intellect that he was by introducing logic and science into the concept of strategy through credible analysis which made the top management honchos and CEOs
listen with rapt attention and apply in their business. This was much before he wrote BOP

Just 2 add, BoP is not the only concept / book Mr. CKP is known for. There are several other management techniques he implemented during his consultancy to many corporates in US.

Certainly he is one of the very few Management Gurus which india ever produced..!!! May be Mr. VG stands second after Mr. CKP.

I only hope that more and more CKs would emerge and the traditionalists would learn to respect the "No" or "why not this" more than the mere "yes" and "brilliant" from their peers, colleagues, students and clients.
