India needs outsourcing-not homemade cookies

Please stop this craze about India making smartphones, even the foreign phones which come to India are messed up with batteries being removed and replaced by spurious ones,Indians cannot innovate or invent ,we can though copy ,read and do fit things and even our engineers can only fit and follow ,cannot make or innovate.if only we had outsourced water electricity and infrastrucuture may be Indians can put their heads together and look at mobile phones in a better way and learn technology,if after all this innovation goes to reservation and OBC quota then God bless India and its politicians. We can get innovated votes or voting machines made IN India for Indians only.Want it for free anybody.

I feel it is just a marketing hype on this phone, when it comes to multimedia no one can beat apple on their performance. There Gui is much better.I would not buy a phone from motorola.

depends on what you want from your phone. If it is an eye candy you are looking to buy, apple is great esp with the great UI. But if it is functionality with multi tasking combined with a good UI, you need to look elsewhere. Apple is quite useless in that area.

Apple is monopolistic. Android is open to public. Buy apple if you like to donate money to Mr Jobs. Apple controls what goes in your phone. Others dont.

BTW, this phone has been priced same as iPhone in the US. And will be the same way worldwide too. Would that not make Apple OS same price (free) as Android OS?

Is this how business is run? So, Jobs gets all the money! Whereas if you buy Nokia, Motorola and anything else, no one gets it or is it free? All comparable high end smart phones cost more or less same as iPhone. Currently, because of Appstore, iPhone has lot more choice for the end user as to what goes on iPhone. The Android marketplace is no different in that it has paid and free apps. If someone is tech savvy enough to load anything on Android, the same person will be savvy enough to load "any" jailbreaked apps on iPhone. When it comes to Apps, Appstore has 1000s (supposedly 50000), Android marketplace has 100s (200), Nokia store claims 1000s (while it is not really true from an usefulness perspective).

Apple is seems to be Phone made for "easy to operate".Less functional stuff compared to Windows.
Then why pay more for it?

It seems to be a status symbol.Nothing Else.
Buy it if u have more money and then be proud of "jail Break"

Shows how little you use your phone. It would help to read on the types of users apple are concentrating on compared to Nokia for ex.

Not necessarily true. Different manufacturers make various phones that are good in their segments.
Nokia makes great phones at the lower end (

Not necessarily true. Different manufacturers make various phones that are good in their segments.
Nokia makes great phones at the lower end (less than Rs. 5K) and has failed repeatedly at the high end smart phones. They also dilute themselves making smartphones form Rs.10-40K.
Apple iPhone is innovative and due their Appstore has been hugely successful and great for surfing online. In India, the iPhone seems to have very limited capability due to limited 3G.
HTC is the king of Windows OS mobile phones and may claim the same for Android OS too.
Samsung is sort of mixing it up.
Blackberry best for enterprise use.
Rest are all followers of other brands.
Motorola is an also-ran. There is nothing innovative about this phone except being the first one with Android 2.0 (which can be bad too as a first major release of OS is usually has more bugs until 2.1/2.2 is released.

People buy based on their individual preferences - price, form factor style, features, customization, etc.

Smart phoes the need of the time?
by Rajendra Pal on Oct 30, 2009 12:15 PM

Dear Frieds, questioning indians capabilities to deliver the high end phones is foolish. India has developed the space and misile technology indigenously. Its not smartness to reinvent the wheel, I liked the saying of Dr. Shetty, that India needs the delivery system, already enough has been invented. And I feel India has performed best as you can see the lowest prevailing rates of phone calls, all the mobile companies competing in the crowded market and the winner is indian consumers.

India lost the electronics and communications bus to Korea and now China because when these countries' electronics industries were growing in 70's and 80's we were still stuck in License Raj where one had to take govt of India permission to open a factory or even to import components that cost very less. In those days, Bajaj scooter had a 10 year waiting list because Govt. did not give them permission to increase their production

Indians have capabilities and skills to match these countries , if not exceed them. Hope with liberalisation, India will achieve what these countries have achieved.

You don't get it boss! Not coming to india reasons are purely economic. First world countries pay monthly charges of around $80 - 100 to carrier for which they discount the handset (like reliance indiacall) in initial days. You do have to sign a contrat though. With this much amount, companies can afford to subsidize handsets. In india, we pay much less to carrier in monthly biling. The whole cost model doesn't work out. Dude, now get it? is it such a brainer?

Vyas

Let's do it with the Seven WHY model to go to the root cause of Robin's question.
You gave a reason. Fair enough. Let us ask, WHY is it that India's economy is in a relatively bad shape which prohibits such innovation?
When you answer that, we will continue on our quest to get to the root cause. :)

Atleast the subject here is 'why cannot a Indian company build a smartphone' and not not 'why smart phone not coming to India'. The answer is resonable from 'Dude' that the point is that business leaders are shifting base to other (first world) countries. Doesn't matter if Sanjay Jha or Mayank Vyas is the driver, at the end of the day Motorola, RIM, Apple etc are not Indian companies.
