Airtel is worst, BSNL is best
by gurpreet on Nov 05, 2009 05:25 PM

Airtel has been adding Rs 60 every month for Secure PC calls about which I have no clue at all. The customer care gives your wrong information and subscribes to paid services on my behalf.
Also in case of limited plans their data usage feature is pretty useless which doesn work most of the time and shows outdated information.
I had enough and am planning to switch back to BSNL broadband - they are the best.

my bill had a mistake of 13,000 !!
by pUnKy bOy on Nov 05, 2009 05:12 PM

I am a subscriber of Tata Photon . I n my last bill, the company added an extra amount of 13,000 in the bill and generated a bill of 15,000. All they did was add up all the last 4 months free and paid "calls and data transfer" amount, when i had already paid for the last 4 months. And in last 2 yrs with Tata (photon and plug2surf) never did my bill exceed the data usage given to me.

It was only my constant nagging and constant reminder to their nodal officers tat I got my bill corrected and did a correction of 12,200. otherwise, these companies just bill u on their own whims and fantasies. Call center guys know nothing about anything.

i wonder if Idea has been fined 10k for a mistake of Rs. 3.50... i would have been raking in lakhs then!!! :-P

but seriously, it is time that we should tighten up the noose on these telecom companies otherwise, they keep fooling innocent consumers with unwarranted charges.

Good Decision!!

Thugs...
by Jatin on Nov 05, 2009 04:20 PM  | Hide replies

These telephone service providers are THUGS.... They should have been fined more than 10, 000. This is a good decission, as these comapnies should not take such issues for granted and should not make this mistake again. Today, they started with Rs. 3.50 tomorrow they will start doing it for Rs 350 for those customers who do not keep track of their mobile phone bill. I was also charged Rs. 300 extra on my bill but then after a long fight and argument with them they reduced the bill. I told them if they are not going to sort out then I will go to Consumer Forum, then only they corrected. With this at least these providers have some things to worry about. Otherwise they will do whatever they want and will not listen to the customers.

Agreed. The fine should have been in lakhs or more. For, given a company like Idea Cellular, Rs 10000 doesnt mean much. And considering the amount of trouble a customer has to undertake to rectify such incidents, the fine is too small an amount.

Nevertheless, really a landmark decision. Hope this happens again and again until the companies succumb and function properly.

This is a landmark case. Good job fining Idea cellular. Just imagine, this is one guy who has complained - if Idea has done that to half its subscribers over the years - it has earned millions. They shud be penalised a couple of crores. You are absolutely correct - all these telecom operators are thugs.

Unrealistic
by VINOD TYAGI on Nov 05, 2009 04:18 PM  | Hide replies

Fine of Rs. 10,000 for mistake of Rs. 3.50 and on a bill for Rs. 26 is unrealistic. Perhaps the penalty might have been imposed for disconnection without resolving the issue which is very common with cellular companies. Otherwise "mental agony and harassment" are just legal jargons to twist the arm of the accused.

Stop passing your judegments without knowing the full story. This is one guy who has complained and this is NOT an isolated case. Idea and every other operator earns millions by overcharging. and most of the people dont have the time to fight it out in court. They deserve to be fined a couple of crores.

Its already there in Bangalore. If a cop catches you just for sake of documents, then he cannot fine you if you dont possess it. He must give one week for emission and two week for insurance document. One sub-inspector lost job recently for harassing people by stopping them and taking bribe. Now they will catch if you violate any rule (like over-speeding, jumping signals etc.) Like that I have seen cops concentrating on more solid issues than standing on road side and harassing people.

consumer court cannot behave like thugs too.

Why rs 10,000 compensation for Rs 3.50? Clearly it could have been Rs 100 or 200, why Rs 10,000?

It just because these comapnies should not take it for granted and should not make this mistake again. Hi Jas,

Your reply is like.. If a poor man dies (something like a train accident etc) his/her compensation by Govt is Rs 2 lacs, but if a rich man dies then compensation shud be 2 crores..

It is simple dear... Rs 3.5 is not important. Imagine the amount they must be garnering if it is a regular practice with a large number of customers, only one has bothered to complain. 10000 is to serve as a deterrent and a warning, not proportional to 3.5

no need to single out...
by s mumbai on Nov 05, 2009 02:53 PM  | Hide replies

i have the unenviable privilege of using the services of following users:
reliance (WLL)
idea
Airtel (Mobile / Broadband / Landline)
Hutch
BSNL (LL and Mobile)

and still now the services are as poor and useless as they used to be maybe 10 years back the time i got first mobile connection...

TRAI should impose rate of Rs 1 per 3 minutes for all calls over india...without any monthly rental...these guys have already made huge money...
