I drive a big car. Now all these small cars will make our roads more congested and make driving difficult for us. I request the government to ban these small cars because they are unsafe. On second thoughts, they should also ban two and three wheelers so that driving is easy for people with big cars.

Hi Soumali and other well wishers of Bengal. My request is not to blame Tata who pioneered industrialisation in India.Tata has done what was expected from politicians in India.Bengal needs to understand loss of Nano is a huge loss as it shows people of Bengal do not want to do anything except blaming others.Just compare yourself against Gujaratis and we realise where we are today.WHAT BENGAL DOES TODAY INDIA WILL REPENT TOMORROW.
INDIANS HAVE FINALLY ACHIEVED SMALL CAR, THOUGH JUST 40 YEARS LATE. NEHRU'S CONGRESS REFUSED TO PERMIT GD NAIDU (COIMBATORE) TO MANUFACTURE SMALL CAR, FOR REASONS BEST KNOWN TO NEHRU ALONE OR CONGRESS. HAD INDIA PRODUCED SMALL CARS IN LATE 50s OR EARLY 60s, WE WOULD HAVE PROBABLY PLANNED ROADS TO DRIVE CARS & BUILDINGS TO PARK THE CARS. NOW WE HAVE NEITHER ROADS TO DRIVE & PARK BUT MORE DISGUISTING IS WE DONT HAVE PARKING SPACE IN MORE THAN 70% OF THE HOUSES IN CITIES & NOT ENOUGH ROAD TO PARK, ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. GOD KNOWS WHO PLANS INDIA & IF PLANNING COMMISSION IS ANYWHERE INVOLVED AT ALL. ALL THESE PROBLEMS ARE MAINLY ON ACCOUNT OF FREE CARS WITH DRIVERS & MAINTENANCE AND HENCE THOSE WHO MAKE POLICIES ARE PLAN LIKE DUMB FOOLS. THAT IS INDIA.

India got the small car!. That is an achivement. But is it good for India?.- Copying/following an automobile transportation model of USA is not good for India. India is densely populated country 1/3 USA size and three time more population. It makes India nine time denser than USA. They (in US) have been spending money building roads in USA, but now within cities gridlock started to show up.
We need good roads connecting major cities, but need to promote public transportaion within cities. Citi like Delhi, Mumabi, Chennai and other cities with a population 10 lakh . People need to have a mulimodal approach to transportation.
Personal vehicles like, car, motor bikes, autos will not- never ever solve the problem of congestion in major cities.

Well said, Mr. Ram Ven. It is god to know there are other people out there with sane thinking as opposed to the whole lot of mover and shakers, policy and opinion makers in Indian society whose life purpose, advertently or inadvertently seems to be to blindly cast their entire existence, thoughts, world view, and actions into the image of whatever it is - good or bad - that is held up in the west in a contextual vacuum.

I can sympathize with our Freelancer Commie. He is feeling bad because this invention is done by entrepreneurial Indian instead of Commie Chinese.I think Communist should rename themselves as CPI(Anti Progress) as they are only ones n the world who are stuck with this outdated ideology while rest of the world including China has moved on.

by samjay das on Mar 28, 2009 04:32 AM
Well, I agree with you. But the writer seems as rambling, as he is confused. The Indian commies have been hiding under a rock, because chinese are the biggest capitalists in the world right now, at least capitalist enablers.
Re: Sad day for Commies
by Devadatta Bhaumik on Mar 28, 2009 07:39 AM
Be a little more imaginative. There is always a far chance that someone who does not agree with something Modi thinks a good thing is not necessarily a 'commie'.
Sometimes people just write their opinions. You need not always react from the position of your religious politics. You think 'commie' is bad. May be. But Modi and his politics of religious hate is worse, mate. Nano cannot redeem Modi.

Mr Bhaumik, sour grapes indeed! Too bad your home state has driven out anything good out of there. Now what do you have in place of the Nano factory, a wasteland?

Mr Chris People of West Bengal understood that Ratan Tata was actually in the business of land in Singur. He took the land at the prioce of water from this Hypocrite Commie Govt and sold them at a huge profit to his anciliery units.People of WB are no longer fools and opposed this. The main objection was why multicropped land sghiould be given for land business.(Please note that in Sanand too Modi didnot offer them fertile land and Tata had to buy land at market price.).It was entirely the loss of tata and now he is planning to negotiate the matter and come back to bengal as he knows this is where he can try and fool the people and gain money for his own company.People have understood this fallacy now.Earlier Tata was driven away from South India, from orissa, from Bangladesh and those lands are still there being wasted.Land at Bolpur is still been not used for industry after 11 years. This Govt cannot do anything for the welfare of the state people.

Mr. Azad,
Your gali galauch says everything about your character and personality traits than saying anything about those you are abusing . If there was any strength in your ideas you would not have to be resorting to this empty headed abusing.

I am not condoning what Modi did in Gujarat with Muslims. But what I am against is the hostile approach of commies to Nano. You can sense the dismay of writer "More than a dozen questions from journalists were prefixed with congratulations to Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata for making the car". Writer thinks that these journalists are pandering to Tatas while I think fact is that they like most people of India have respect for monumental achievement of Indian company. By consistently opposing India's progress these people are discrediting themselves. Just like our Commie brothers who oppose nuclear deals with US, Economic Reforms and capitalism in general.
India is such a welfare state, just look at the liberal columnists such as this author on any media site. You shake a tree a 10 NGOs and "intellectuals" fall off it in this country ready to blame progress and pull back anyone trying to move ahead. Who feeds such people and the JNU crowds??? They are parasites on the poor farmers ensuring that millions will remain caught up in the cycle of poverty, illogical thinking and self-hate.
Imagine liking a finance minister(like the author says) who has singlehandedly blessed india with the LARGEST % DEFICIT for a country in the world. That means he has stolen not just from today's citizens but also their children and grand-children. Now compare that with Tata. How can someone with such ignorance proudly publish their illogical thinking on a leading media outlet? Strange!!!
Re: Another freelance communist
by Devadatta Bhaumik on Mar 28, 2009 03:56 AM
Obviously you do not know the meaning of Welfare State, even if you come back shout 100 times that you do. You spew the usual drivel (JNU crowd etc..) that we hear day in and out from the admirers of the religious party.
Just below the patina, it is just your religious partisanship and hatred that makes you write these hate-messages. Difficult to see the link? ask yourslef. And you cleverly but rather unsuccessfully stick the hate-tag on others!
Re: Re: Another freelance communist

Sour grapes again, Devdatta! Fact is that Chidambaram has ensured the largest budget deficit and that is fact. While IPL is not a National priority, the fact is that the Govt has been jerking them around for two reasons, one because they did not allow the Congress to advertise and because Sharad Pawar, who has been jerking the Govt around, is involved. One does not really care whether the IPL is on or not, nor if it goes to another country, but failure to provide security for the event shows that the Govt has lost it totally.
Re: Another freelance communist
by suvrat mahajan on Mar 28, 2009 02:12 PM
Agree with you mate!Commies adore Staln who starved 50 Million Ukrainians to death and Mao who caused 50 Mn deaths in Cultural Revolution in China. Communist Regimes have caused more deaths than Ghengis Khan. Still Commies in India are stuck in that time warp and believe in failed ideology of socialism.
If Tata wants to make Nano, it is his business. Only people who need it will buy it. No need to equate it with jingoism or Chidambaram, Gujarat or IPL.
Hats of to Ratan Tata to bring a car in place of three wheeler & two wheeler. now doubt he should be given bharat ratna. In India every body working for the high tax, & pushing inflation no one thinking of common man economy. Palaniappa Chidambaram and almost most all politicians/ Burocrates / Gveernment officials / rowdy's are corrupted to the core and amassed the Government revenues into their pockets which are at German / Swiss / island banks. Like Indira Gandhi confiscated all Zamindar lands & building to national treasury, similar way all political / govt officials relatives all should be identified thier benamy assets & confiscate & punish them for suffering billion Indian people.
Re: NANO

Ratan Tata has handled all the problems of the Tata group with dignity and prudence. Anyone else in his place would have found it difficult to recover. He deserves very high praise.
i think the author is very much right in saying that today the world's economy is not about owning personal cars. Even the govt. is thinking of ending subsidy on personal cars. it means personal car owners will have to shell out more from their pockets for petrol. Think of how many middle or lower middle class people will be able to buy or maintain cars without govt. subsidy?
Re: SUBSIDISED .........
by Ramesh Kumar on Mar 29, 2009 07:19 PM
Man, are u out of ur mind? It is kerosene, disel & LPG which are cross-subsidised by making a huge profit on petrol. What govt-subsidy on petrol are u talking about?
hello friends ! is this car really the best ? to find out i went to google and got some interesting information . Believe it or not , nano is not the best car in the world ! bugatti veyron 0-100 2.8 secs nano 0-100 35 secs

My friend, the bugatti veyron costs Rs. 7 crores, i.e. (price of Nano)X70000. So you see, Nano is offering great value for money!

At Rs.1.30 Lakhs NANO will be the best common-man's car in the world, when it actually hits the road. Your Bugatti is NOT a common-man's car at all. There is no comparison.
