Only Short Term Impact
by Rakesh Narayan on Mar 21, 2009 10:04 PM

Its clear this will have short term impact. On the long term things will even out. US had to do this, my dad lost a job due to a MNC buying out his company and firing everyone involved and we felt miserable. Protectionism isnt a bad idea to weed out greedy corporations. As long as tech companies are okay it should be fine. Secondly since this applies to new hirings, probably companies wouldnt fire a skilled H1-B, since finding a replacement would be impossible.

make h1b independent of employer. give h1 b only based on the individual's education and experience and skills. this will prevent h1b abuse.

What about the Golties getting fake certificates & making up their CV with work experiences they never had.

They are the reason, why a fully qualified candidate suffering to for a H1B.

H1B can be restricted not L1B Dude
by Blazer on Mar 21, 2009 08:10 AM

Indian companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys , HCL will benefit by payinf peanuts on L1b. Individual will be the loser because no Salary Negotiations no switching of jobs. America cannot stop the corporates but are taxing Indian engineers.

Higher education is third largest earner for USA
by Tarun Mukherjee on Mar 20, 2009 07:19 PM

And almost half of students in science, technology are from outside USA.

The first impact of H1B cut will be on that.

Obama already stated, Indian and chinese kids are doing better math, science than us kids. restricting h1b to protect fat paycheck of us citizens will impact usa more than it impact india, china. more jobs will go out of usa if that happens.
