If the plan is really for philanthropic purposes without any ifs and buts attached to it then it is commendable.I've never heard of a plan like this before in india where someone thought of a university of this size and magnitude.India, for its grand history of having the world's first university at nalanda deserves a university of this size atleast now.And as far as the detractors are concerned, no great deed in the history of mankind has been achieved without criticism and obstacles, and in india, ever since independence, every single project has faced all kinds of problems. In other words, we will remain like this if we dont have bigger ambitions and to acheive those ambitions, these obstacles need to be faced. As swami vivekananda said,"we need people with nerves of steel and gigantic will to aim for and achieve the glory for our nation" and i hope Mr Agarwal is capable of achieving his ambition for the sake of our country.
Blessed are the people of the state that gets this opportunity. We should welcome such grand projects promoted by the socially awakened and generous people? They can only raise the standard of education and if the dont they will have a natural death. Why do so many people go out of India for higher education? Just because they think that is a better option - even after considering the much higher costs. A bigger land area is required for properly planned accommodation and atmosphere to be provided to the residents (staff and students and others required by this huge establishment). Let us encourage and cooperate with such entrepreneurs than scaring them away. May God bless him and his project. Best wishes.
indian government and state governments are keep reducing the budget for education. new townships in every city is totaly deprived of government attention. all private schools are thriving. very poor quality education at very high cost
Orissa is a poor state. Such an University would develop Orissa beyond its wildest dreams. What have the tribal leaders done except make money and kept their people in the stone age ?

U r pathetic.... Do u know that more than 60k students go to US every year, and there by contributing to their economy. If we have some very good university we can stop atleast a few thousand of these bright brains. The main reason for them to go to other countries is that there is no opportunity for these students here. In western countries university is where research goes on, it funded by the governemnt and pvt companies. Here university is simply churning out degrees which doesnt make the people employable. That is y IT companies hire student and give them training to make them employable.
Starting of these kind of universities will definitely change this condition and influence other universities to be competitive.

What about Indian Institute of Science set up by the late Jamsetji Tata in 1909 (In fact, this is the centenary year)? What about Tata institute of Fundamental Research? What about Tata Institute of Social Science?

Are you naive enough to believe that businesses are run for charity? Education is a big business world over, including our own dear country. Any number of our well-greased parents are exporting their wards for study abroad in colleges that charge hefty fees. So what is wrong having a similar institution in Orissa. At least the money will remain largely in Indian hands. It is really dumb to oppose just for the sake of opposition, without understanding ABC of the project.
