Rubbish. GMail has the best spam control mechanism I know of in this business.
They haven't missed filtering a single spam mail so far ever since I opened account with them - right when they started operation.

After you respond, the chap sends you his account number where to remit. Voila.
The account is normally closed down after the sting operation runs its course.

I have also received the same kind of mail from my Ex-employer.But fortunately I didn't had that much money (in dollaras) requested by him.So I have kept silent. If it would have been a few thousands than I might have tried to send.ofcourse, later,I came to know that it was a fake mail.So friends, be careful yours closed ones mail can be hacked and you can receive mail from them asking for help.So first confirm with them and then only help.
