Thinking thta it was a genuine call for help, I had sent $3500. Can some one tell mne how to get it back? In case I loose, will Mani compensate me? My life time saving is lost on account of my concern to a fellow Citizen and a Peoples Rep!

Why did you send $3500 in spite of the fact that you have never been introduced to Mr. Mani Shanker? Why would Mr. Mani ask you, of all the people, who could save only Rs. 1,50,000/- odd during his life time, to help him? Some thing fishy. By the way, from where or from who you got the permission to transfer money in dollar term?
Hotmail, Google, ...all these services are US based and Mani being a Indian government diplomat uses Hotmail? That shows something about the level of understanding our politicians have for national security

Even some government departments use this email account. It was developmed by an Indian, Mr. S. Bhatia, who later sold it to Microsoft.

Indian govt diplomat? My foot. He is an ex-MP who lost badly in this election. Thats all.
I am assuming that his e-mail has been hacked, but then the next point is - What a stupid hacker he is... he don't even know that "No one can send money using Western Union from India"... in fact in India, western union is allowed for inward transactions only, not for sending funds...
i hope he did that. being a top level politician, he should have gone for a paid account - which i suppose he has done! office live is supposed to be decent.
its good to note that he's using emails. there's some hope with top politicians being computer/ net savvy - gives us hope of better legislation for the same!
Be aware of this false mail. recently one of my close friend's email was hawked and same request has been sent to all the contacts in his mail.He was away on a leisure trip abroad and the mail stated the exact country place where he had been. I was one of the receiptant of the mail sent by 'My Friend"'s name asking for money and I send the money thro Western Union Money transfer after getting second mail from hin to my response to the first mail. Later when my friend returned from abroad we have found that I have been cheated . So be aware

how about cross verification ? if yur friend gives an important information and clues that only 2 of you know - plus he should also ask for a response - not a blind, one sided email.
no verification. stupidity if there's money involved.
A huge amount of Tax-payers' money is being wasted on sending a 'zero ROI' politician to an ornamental seminar in these highly difficult times when Economy is in shambles and people do not have jobs. Why the press is not investigating ?
This has happened to many people. Mani would have received a mail from Hotmail asking some details about his account and also requesting him for his password and since it was from Hotmail Mani would have provided the same. In fact the hacker has broken into Hotmail and followed this up with others. Is Hotmail sleeping?
