A 'non-free' computing infrastructure IT Dept. Portal
by Raghavendra Bhat on Jul 31, 2009 08:06 PM

The ITR filing software is in a propreitary, 'non-free', lock-in able format. I am unable to file my ITR as I do not use a Microsoft OS or Microsoft applications. I am using a 'free' (free as in freedom) OS commonly know as GNU/Linux. Can my Government help me move forward by allowing me to file my ITR online?

Can the Hon. Kamal Nath justify the wastage of public money by deployment of 'non-free' infrastructure software which does not help the lay taxpayer? How can the Govt. of the day justify the forcible use of a computer OS which is very costly and not affordable?
