Salary Class
by sanjeev bhatia on Jul 08, 2009 03:00 PM

The most affected is salaried class who pay taxes on eery damn thing be it household items, food, travel, entertanment and at the end of month gets salary net of tax. On the other side business class is enjoying earning money and paying minimal tax whereas govt has no control on this class. Why can't the govt expand tax base instead of keep on pressing service class.

We need co-operative movement
by abboral boral on Jul 08, 2009 09:24 AM  | Hide replies

I am just giving an idea how Indian markets work
1. All comodities market under the grab of hoarders (backed by politicians )--solution =hoarders has to be removed and it is possible by incorporating uniform law of making co -operative body to function in line with AMUL dairy system (invented by Vergeese Corian )
2. All PSUs should sale unit of Rs 2 to all Indians irrespective of any class (limit 100 unit perhead after UID system fully operational)instead of didinvestment ==more and more people participations means more money in the system
3. Hence forth 70 % of Indian revenue should be spend on rural India development only for a period 5 years only==see the changes as more purchasing powers of more people can be generated
4. There must be a people movement backed by all political parties to remove all dirts from our system ==it is possible as how RTI is working successfully

So I am not pessimistic and always hope for betterment of India where people like Dr Manmohan ,Kalam is survibing against all majority odds ,so India also can survibe

A Tactical Yawn
by Javed Khan on Jul 07, 2009 11:56 PM  | Hide replies

Clearly. the Budget called for some efforts at raising revenues. It is here that we heard enigmatic silences. Mukherjee steered away from making hard revenue choices. At least for now.
1. He wants to return to the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) Act "at the earliest", but he doesn't say when.
2. He intends to "move towards a nutrient based(fertiliser)subsidy regime instead of the current product pricing regime", but we don't know when ?
3. He intends to "set up experty group to advise on a viable and sustainable system of pricing of petrolium products." But the Sundararajan Committee hadf prepared an outstanding report during Atal Bihari Vajpayee's regime, which was nixed by Ram Naik and continues to gather dust at the Ministry of Petrolium and Natural Gas. Do we need yet another committee ? Or can we quickly revise this report for circulation and rapid implementation."
4. He wants to encourage "people's participation' in the disinvestment of public sector companies, but does not set a revenue target anywhere in the Budget document.
That’s why he didn’t announce sweeping tax reforms . That’s why he didn’t set the Yamuna on fire. And that’s why I believe that Union Budget 2009-10 was a tactical yawn. Time will tell whether this was tactical; or just a plain, boring yawn

RETD DEFENCE OFFICERS LEFTOUT IN COLD
by karuppu on Jul 07, 2009 11:09 PM  | Hide replies

It is a pity in this country no one bothers about the defence services whether serving or retired. after getting humiliated in 6th pay commission by lowereing their respect viz a viz civilians in Govt, the armed forces revolted --(almost !--) since nobody took up their case to govt. congress got cold feet and pacified the middle rank (serving )by increasing their pay to some where near the civilians pay . but the ex-service men were still not considered for that honour.

now ,govt--which has included this in their election manifest-- has given the rightful honour as deserved by an ex-servicemen,by annoncing "ONE RANK ONE PENSION".. BUT IMPLEMENTED ONLY FOR BELOW OFFICERS RANK .

WHY? why this discrimination between officers and jawans ? we are very happy a jawan upto JCO has been CONSIDERED,and we have no issue on this AT ALL.
but, doesn't the officer face bullets in a war zone ?does'nt he undergo the same rigoures training-if not more-? is the life of an officer not worth considering? doesn't he undergo the same family problems when separated due to "operational reasons?

the answer to all these are "YES ". BUT THE DIFFERENCE IS A JAWAN CAN NOT BECOME EQUAL TO AN IAS OFFICER,and this IAS lobby has ensured that defence officers are kept much below their status, so that they become "YES" man in Defence deals.
and ,unfortunately this country is more worried about rehabilitating the displaced SRILANKAN TAMILS or repairing the infrastructure in West bengal and ORISSA

A DEFENCE OFFICER AND HIS FAMILY SHLOLD NOT BE PAID FOREVER, UPTO TEN YEARS IS UNDERSTANDABLE,AS IT IS WHEN U R IN SERVICE U AND UR FAMILY R ENJOYING ALL FACILITIES FROM THE GOVERNMENT FREE OF COST.
THIS IS WHERE OUR DEFENCE COSTS GETS MULTIPLIED YEAR BY YEAR,
IT MAY SOUND HURTING TO SOME WHOSE PARENTS OR HUSBANDS HAVE LAID DOWN THIER LIVES. BUT TEN YEARS IS A LOT OF TIME FOR OTHER KITH AND KIN TO START EARNING OR SOME FAMILY MEMBER TO JOIN THE ARMY AND START EARNING STRAIGHTAWAY.
DEFENCE EXPENDITURE HAS TO BE BROUGHT DOWN AT ANY COSTS.THIS WILL ONLY BE A DROP IN THE OCEAN.BUT CAN BE A GOOD OPENING.
ALL THE MONEY THAT WAS SPENT ON THE MIRAGES OUT OF WHICH WE HAVE ONLY 25 ODD TODAY WOULD HAVE SURELY BROUGHT DOWN THE BUDGET DEFICIT.
ALL SUBSTANDARD DEFENCE EQUIPMENTS WHICH ARE ALMOST OBSOLETE IN SOME COUNTRIES ARE BEING DUMPED IN INDIA EVEN TODAY.CAN SOMEBODY STOP THESE WASTE SPENDING,OR ATLEAST CONTROL TO THE BARE MINIMUM

Karuppu This is India..there is no value for an Soldier dying on Border .. But Ofcourse are more worried about a terrorist getting killed..

Soldiers are only remembered when they face war with China or Poki.. So no wonder many solider in Armed forces are taking up voluntarily retirement and living a uncertain but peaceful civil life

FM has to tax the rich to raise Funds for Developments benefittin
by Moses Joseph on Jul 07, 2009 10:48 PM  | Hide replies

1. FM should have prepared a series of benefits to the poor such as the Rs.3/ a kilo rice and made it a people friendly budget. He collected votes from the masses, for his popular Govt. The budget presentation should have been more clear as to how it will benefit the poor masses.
2. He has to make money for Development works and economical growth. For this, he has to tax the rich. So, he has made some concessions to the rich and encouraged them to pay tax honestly without hiding any income.

by divakar tyada on Jul 07, 2009 10:29 PM  | Hide replies

It is not appropriate to compare our tax slabs with that of U.K. or china and make comments. The F.M. has done admirably well to increase the disposable incomes of the salaried class and also to increase the incomes of the rural poor. All this would boost the economy to attain a higher growth rate and employment.

As has been pointed out in this article, even among the salaried class, guys who have income more than 10Lakh are benefited the most while guys who have less than that are given peanuts(Savings of Rs. 1000),which is a shame, when all the hype during elections by these buffoons, aam aadmi and what not. Aam aadmi has been given peanuts while the rich aadmi has been given aam.
