It is too theoratical to assume that life of CFLs is 1200h. Its Life is very sensitive to quality of power supplied by various EBs. Wave pattern, voltage, frequency variations drastically reduce life. Therefore it should be more realistic in life assessment and pay back period of CFLs. While disposing off ordinary filament lamps need not be very stringent,CFLs contain Mercury which even in small quantities can be very damaging. This issue also needs close scientific study and disposal recommendations printed on cartons.

I am agreed with you on disposal but high life(more than 1500 hrs) CFLs and CCFLs are present today all over world.and giving good competetion to LEDs.
