Hats off to our businessmen!

There were the Tatas, Birlas & few others! Then Dhirubhai came along, walked through the brick wall! Rest followed!

Postings generally are negative - how things are bad, going to be worse etc! In life, one has to work within the limitations & that our businessmen have done with panache! We have hidden talents but the chalega attitude prevails! Few have the passion to rise above others. Decades ago, it was mayhem. Moralji ruled with tax rates of 100%. Dhirubhai waited in the corridors of power pleasing babus, even peons with, I have a dream projects! He would have been ridiculed at his grandiose ideas! Then Infosys etc came along with can-do attitude & took the chances as they came!

It is always easy to be demoralised. But if the passion burns in us, any dream can be converted into reality. Our upstarts have proved. China, even more! Mao brought the system to the bare knees in the Cultural Revolution chaos. But the passion to better others prevailed when they were unleashed from their self-destructive system. We were little different. The tax structure was a noose around our necks. Also the militant unions who kept a hawk-eye to douse any initiatives. The dyed in the wool communism made the Keralites plunge into the cauldron of Middle East with zero labour laws! The best of IIT, IIM left our shores even to Nigeria etc to save than be outpayed by clerks, peons etc with padded OT!

Things are just different & will get better, hopefully! Pray!! We will prevail!

we need to have some sort of performance appraisal of all govt orgns. and offices/units. it shud mean that when large negative feedback is given, those responsible must be sacked and changes made.

Positive side of India
by Charu Thamma on Jan 01, 2010 11:11 PM

great writeup to cheer us all. The other side is very depressing. Politicians are milking the nation's wealth and corruption at all levels is mind boggling. The slums of India are growing as fast as the economy, so are beggars. The rail transportation as bad as ever it was, the toilets the biggest shame. The subway trains of Mumbai continue the bone crushing stampedes and the traffic is hopelessly snarled. India, a pale comparison of China, is surrounded and encircled on all sides by the dragon and Indian politicians care for about their next election and very little of security and welfare of India.
