GOVT. SHOULD GIVE TAX REBATE TO ELECTRIC / SOLAR BASED CARS
by Satya on Jan 06, 2010 03:14 PM

The Indian Govt. must give good tax rebate to promote non-conventional energy based cars.

The roads need to be widened further and must be maintained / marked properly to improve the safe ride on roads.

Extremely crowded roads
by Mr Walker on Dec 31, 2009 05:38 PM  | Hide replies

India has high population density in cities and even in many rural areas.

Our roads are in bad shapes no footpaths so walking people and cars use the same road.

Roads are encroached upon by hawkers.

We have high levels of pollution trees are being constantly chopped off.

Roads are narrow in many places full of potholes.

We charge tolls for all roads but there is hardly any maintenance or security.

Bottomline we are not ready for so many cars on the road not till we figure our a way to inculcate discipline in people, cut pollution, save trees, reduce corruption and hawkers have good infrastructure.

Most of our cities badly need elevated pedestrian walkways. Princeton Univ Prof Ted Zoli won acclaim for low cost, high quality bridges for pedestrians.

yes the conditions of roads are in bad shape, but the situations are improving day by day. if you compare our roads and infrastructure what we have and what we had 5years ago, you will find the difference. today, cities are covered with flyovers and bypasses. yes pathholes are point of attention, but we also have to appriciate the steps of govt to adopt new technologies. Are we developed in tech front???
by meher kpcRao on Dec 30, 2009 11:38 AM  | Hide replies

we have seen many a show of this sorts previously, but it is wonder that we find less cars which do run primarily on Electric batteries or fuel cells, even if we find 1 of this kind, we can not buy that car bcoz either it is very costly or its design seems awkward (i don\'t know why). It is high time that Car manufacturer\'s should think abt hybrid or purely electric cars which a normal car buyer can afford. But the major car suppliers have done very less in this area. The diesel/petrol driven cars are one of the prime reasons of the environmental pollution at global scale. I am hopeful that an Electric car wolud come at a cost of around 5 to 6 lakhs, but is that possible? Noway...

Easier said than done!

All we can hope for is the invention of flying cars and soon.

Or the next decade will be a new nightmare for all commuters.

berry,

Yes it is a dream but not the car or home but the roads to drive them on.

With Nano flooding the roads of Indian metros, it will be years before our corrupt government uses more cars as an excuse to build more flyovers and loot the Indian exchequer!!

The world over countries are moving towards hybrid and electric vehicles..
here we have most companies selling fuel guzzling vehicles..
Govt should come with a resolution which will encourge companies to manufacture sell fuel efficient vehicles..

Third world countries have long been the dumping yard for western rejects!

The sad part is that third world countries are more than eager to accept and use trash from western countries.

After all, we used many pharmaceuticals that were banned in the West and learned to live with them simply because they were cheap.

This is just another example of beggars can't be choosers even if they are not beggars anymore.

But then once a beggar, always a beggar!!

Bigger & Powerful Cars
by Samir Moosa on Dec 29, 2009 06:38 PM  | Hide replies

The Indian joint-family system coupled with bad roads should encourage the government to reduce the Import duty on SUVs so that more and more people get transported in one car and that too at a faster speed thus reducing traffic and fuel wastage. This idea will be ridiculed in this day and age of media hype about environment hazards and costs of fuel. But ultimately overcrowded ill-maintained public buses and suburban trains cost the government more by way of subsidies and rehauling costs not to mention the number of lives these public tranports take each day. A powerful, high speed, comfort car would encourage people to stay further away from city centres and thus reduce overburdening of resources within the city too. Also with 4-WD people would travel longer for holidays and visit holiday spots more thus increasing businesses in those areas as well. As for the the loss in revenue due to reduction in taxes the government can make that up by earning from higher fuel consumption. People crying foul about extra burden on environment can take heart in the fact that people with SUVs may consume more fuel but a decently maintained 4WD can emit lesser Carbon Monoxide than a Bajaj autorickshaw and a 1 ton pickup.
