We have been dealing with water shortage for centuries, without ever addressing the issue. We are slow people, and unsophisticated. We don't know how to deal with issues. We do not have the planning and execution skills as a society. WE ARE ALWAYS WILLING TO DEAL WITH SCARCITIES BY 'CONSERVING' INSTEAD OF 'PRODUCING MORE'. We will always have shortages. It is the same attitude with EDUCATED or UNEDUCATED, rich or the poor people. We are not smart, bottomline.
No one is interested to control unwanted population. Migration to metro thus cannot be stopped, from where people will earn livelihood, land is limited, industry and offices can only provide employment. Drastic steps are required to control population, else face all music.
Usually indians are caught unprepared with floods every alternate year. This time its drought.
The ministers can only forecast droughts effect on the GDP. Nobody wants to even think about solving the root cause of poor infrastructure. Everybody is least bothered and doesn't care for the "mango" man....born to suffer!
this forsight was missed due to the apathy of the govt. India has more than 7 major rivers and still the river run polluted and still there is not water for irrigation or consumers. We are sorrounded by water on three sides, providing ample water for de-salination projects, still it is not considered viable. It is said that it is too expensive. As usual, the govt will "start digging wells only when the shortage is too acute to be sustained".
We ppl of India deserve every bit of what we currently face and is not just limited to water shortage, but as well law and order issue, electricity shortage, bad roads. ppl like talking about India being a super power. Seriously, before thinking of India being a super power, lets talk about the basic necessities provided to common man. Even the govt. education is pathetic. They could not afford build quality school in every village of the country and this was the need of the hour and was diagnosed 60 years back. Just imagine that they have recently realized that we have shortages in other fields as well and further imagine how long it will take for the pathetic govt to come up with a fix for it.
Nation where we have politicians like NDTiwari, Shibu soren , Policemen like SPS Rathore and public engrossed on petty things as low as Big Boss........than god save my country.

Not to mention out and out thieves like Sharad Pawar, Madhu Koda, Jayalalitha, Karunanidhi, Lalu Yadav besides the biggest idiot in the Indian reality, the commoner himself !!!
We see a country of fools managed by people who do not want to do the basics to ensure a bright future for all, but instead mired in greed and corruption. Even their ancestors look to basic things like rain water harvest which is beyond the scope for the greedy modernist that insist on fast and unscientific approaches and don't give a hoot for the future as they are quite uneducated coolie trained for a trade not knowing anything more as their education is greed for job not a well rounded education as they have no maturity and thought to be a loafer hero.

It is this shameless greedy country that progress is missing the lack of desire to be first.
