Google about John Perkins and his book "Confessions of an economic Hitman" ,and you will know why such interviews and articles are published in the first place. It is a global game played by major multinationals......My claim would sound ridiculous only as long as you don't actually go ahead and read up about it.....after that it'll be clear what the truth is....

Growth formula is very simple, following is hard.
by manoj sharma on Dec 13, 2009 01:44 PM

We simply need to study what mantra has worked for all rich nation and follow it blindly. China is doing exactly same. They dont waste time on debate and discussion. Just do it.
We keep discussing things. Mantra very simple. Lots of good consumers, better job skills for masses, infrastructure. This will keep demand of product and services. Company will grow. Job for citizen and wealth for family, society. Whats so complicated about it. But yes they say common sense is highly uncommon thats issue with us.

India's bane is cricket and a huge unproductive population watching this game of 11 players and 1 billion ( well almost) fools who waste watching this (predetermined by bookies) game. India's bane is currupt politicians and their minority appeasing policy, encouraging population explosion, INDIA'S BANE ARE WE WHO ELECT CURRUPT POLITICIANS.

Population
by Nitin Dutt on Dec 10, 2009 10:31 AM  | Hide replies

One of our friends has rightly remarked here that Indian population is its biggest assest. It is this population that drives this country and that why India is its own biggest consumer, we are not totally dependent on exports to sustain, domestic business covers us well and that is the precise reason, MNC's make a beeline to set up their offices anf factories in this country. The ditto holds well for China. Our poupaltion that too of young age is an asset not an liability we just need to manage our resources better.

india's population is certainly an asset. why we ing still remain as a poorly performing state is for one simple reason : we do not LOVE this country as we love ourselves. perhaps there is no reason to except for the simple fact that we were born in it (call it by accident or fate or whatever)

Do you know that 80% of Indian population earns less than Rs 20/- Day. And with population growing at 2-3% per year, this earning will further go down? Do you know that a large number of farmers commit suicide? Do you know that the Agriculture output is falling down every year and India has to import food grains from US and Europe?

Also, I would suggest you just go 15 Km outside the city you live, you will only see no roads, bullock carts, no electricity and people living in miserable conditions.

For MNCs India is a huge market where they sell their products. Most of the purchasing power of Indian people in villages comes from the Govt money spent on non-productive schemes/loans for agriculture and in cities its salaris and loans.

Thats why the GDP of India with 118 crore people is $1 trillion, whereas the GDP of US with 30 Crore people is $21 Trillion.

What rubbish is this. Population can be an asset only if you have a matching land area. Try to fit in 100 crores into the Japanese island and you will face the same problem. All the rich nation with no poverty have a fair share of population to their land area at which the resources can be equitable.

India's Bane is its population. Until and unless we address this core issue, we will never ever aspire to be a truly global or economic power. Apart from this is the corrupt politicians who rule our country. We must vote for people who are free from caste, creed and religion, only then can we truly emerge as a world power. Till that happens God save us!!

our population is more also because of corrupt politicials because they siphone off funds meant for family planning and education. They also don't allow population control as it may displease their voters. No opposition alolows ruling party to implement the plans and programs and vice aersa.

Problem is not the population and not the politicians.Problem is the culture of the people who elect politicians who are fit to represent them.If the politicians who were elected are corrupt, dacoits, thieves or murderers, those who elected them cannot be much different.Indian MPs and MLAs are not elected by Chinese people

This is the greatest misconception cracked up by westerners to cover their a__ since they are feeling negative effects of low population in their culture.

Our population is our biggest asset if its managed with good quality leaders.

We can be biggest power in this world if we make military service compulsory for every citizen. OK, just note that military is not just about going to war, but using resources for betterment of country aslo. Like, creating big infrasturctures fast, etc. Also, military is suffering from acute manpower issues which is hidden.

Maybe our past history of being rules by several races is also a factor. albeit a small fraction. GOD SAVE THIS COUNTRY

In India the whole development is confined to 10-12 major cities only. And their population is growing fast due to migration from rest of the country and creating various social problems.

This kind of concentration is catering very well to MNCs, consumer companies, politicians, bureacrats, realtors as they are finding all of their market within a small area, and they do not need to go to far places and develop rest of the country.

So, Indians will continue with misery and only Politicians, bureacrats, buisnessmen/corporates/MNCs, Cricketers, Film Stars, Mediamen, Religious Gurus in this country will consume the cream and rest of India will continue to eat their Sh!!t.

The USP of Politicians, bureacrats, buisnessmen/corporates/MNCs, Cricketers, Film Stars, Mediamen, Religious Gurus in this country to foo1 the public is "India will be a Super Power". More the population, these people will be more powerful.

Right you are.Population is strength as already stated by Amartya Sen.The density of population of Japan and many other developed countries is almost same or more than India's. All the highly populated countries like China,India,Indonesia,Brazil are projected to be big economies by the middle of this century.Nobody can stop that.

A Very Nice Article
by Jatin Das on Dec 09, 2009 03:59 PM

Indeed a very nice article with genuine facts about India's people & it's economy. I liked the example which says about procuring the basic necessity by the poor like Electricity, Refrigirator a good house to live etc. Also stuff which says about the time India took to fall behind the West economy leave alone matching them. Though the life style of people have become better in last 10 years,it may take us another 70-80 years to become a fully developed nation.
