All can benefit!
by shiva on Dec 02, 2009 06:19 AM

There are extreme views. One British scientist challenged Al Gore for a debate. Wisely, the latter did not respond! There are still doubters about harmful effects of smoking! The writing is on the wall especially for us.

The future is sustainable living through renewable energy by cutting down polluting oil & coal. Nobody knows when we are running out of oil & we can be the last in the queue! It is becoming a selfish world indeed. No point in touting our democrazy, people are just not listening!

The most talented among us go for repetitive work if it pays more! One cannot fault them as ultimately people aspire for a better life! But it is upto us to secure our future. Rather than live with extreme weather, paying with our lives with polluting fossil fuels, the govt should play an active part in channeling resources into reneawbles!

Obama wanted to rid US of imported oil. But China has seized the initiative by selling solar panels, wind turbines cheaper! So, it is exit Arabs & more debt to China! The job creation becomes illusive! But US can meet all energy through wind from the Mid-west! When the blades turn, the ordinary Joe gets the moola! Gandhiji's words that India lives in its villages can be real if we can tap sun light! No need to live in disharmony in congested cities if we can just spread out by becoming grid-free!

It is time a clear road-map is set by govt so that our businessmen feel confident to take the plunge for a better future, just do it!

India to reduce emission
by George Kavalakatt on Dec 01, 2009 10:04 PM

India has consistently avoided making any commitments on CO2 reduction - its time we act.

1. We account for much more vehicles (if non-registered vehicles like the fish cards in TN and two wheelers are considered)
2. We allow any kind of old vehicles to ply on the road. See Mumbai which has taxis as old as 40-50 years old
3. There is no emission control - see the auto-rickshaws in any city - one vehicle produce as much emission as 50 vehicles would produce in US. Need to convert all of them into CNG ASAP.
4. Use on nuclear and non-conventional energy is much below most of the developed countries.
5. More than 60% of the households use raw fuel (wood) for cooking which produce more emission than other fuels.

Its time for us to act and give a commitment. Need not wait for others to start - our children's future is at stake.
