It is true dear, in Mumbai you can stuff yourself in 10 Rs Wada Paw, i live in Tokyo here, one cheapest sandwitch goes to 300 Yen (about 150 RS. In this term, really it is cheapest.
REDIFF must state the facts in a simple manner. A nation of 1.2 billion plus and still increasing, with LOW GDP (infact even Pakistan has higher GDP per capita than India); CAN only lead to Cheap People, Cheap Cities and Cheap Nation.
When cost of a human life is less than a penny, and people live in shit holes, CITIES are bound to be cheap.
THIS is the fotune for India.
JUST hope even when no hope there reasonably, that one day we will stop multiplying.
I consider Mumbai to be the most expensive city in India and one among the most expensive city in the world, even before one starts searching a property one has to keep a min 50 Lakh ready with them.Recently visited UK and i found Mumbai to be expensive then compared to cities in UK(except London). So people thinking Mumbai to be cheap kindly change your mind as it is not the reality.
Mumbai specially is most expensive. You get a crappy quarters in crappy neighbourhood for top money. Delhi real estate is high too. They charge developed nations rate in a third world country. It's so stupid.
For any survey of this kind, the most difficult thing is to find a common measure of cost and value. Even among Western countries there are huge differences in how people buy properties, and how people divide their income between leisure and essential spending. Comparing the West with other countries makes the job even more difficult, especially when you have to convert currencies. This immediately begs the question: for whom are these surveys intended? The answer, like for most surveys of this kind, is: for a Western man (ie. male) with a higher than average income, very likely someone who works in the banking sector.
If you compare London with Bombay, then house rents in Bombay will seem minuscule to the average Londoner, but not for someone in Bombay. Also, it is much more difficult to take an average figure for house rents in an Indian city, because of the larger income disparities in India.
From personal experience, I am absolutely sure of the results of this study being very misleading, if not completely worthless. It is much more expensie to rent a decent flat in central London than in the centre of Copenhagen. That is still the case, even after the pound having fallen drastically over the last few months.
