Is this a big news? GM, Chrysler etc are companies approaching sunset. If specific skill is highlighted, the news will make sense. Else people will mock them as "laid-off" only.
Hiring eight laid of engineers from Detroit is a great catch indeed. It is like catching an old shoe in a fish pond. Those eight are probably responsible for running GM and Chrysler to the ground.
The article should read like "6 of them were laud of by the economic downturn and are running back to India searching for jobs."

You seems like jacka$$ who thinks if you are laid off, you are no good. Eiether you are being too lucky in your life, or you are illutional. If the later, please see a doctor soon.

You are correct!. People who are laid off are EXCELLENT, that is why they are laid off! ha ha ha

What is "illutional"? Maruti should appoint some UAE and Singapore returned engineers. Their expertise is toi*let cleaning. Clean toilets produce green cars. :-)

Not sure of how much you are aware of building/running an organization would take. Any company needs various levels of skillsets, not all genuises. Also, how can you second guess judgement and the ability of management that went for recruiting? If you read the artcile with positive mindset, you would have noticed they are being recruited to train other engineers. All you could read is 'laidoff', your brain goes into a whirlpool of negative thinking. Hope that thinking do not continue for years to come.

So much for your handle, "Human Value". Its not tagging with yourself fancy words, living upto that makes you a 'human'

Like you live up to you tag. Dance like crazy on the streets just because some "laid off" blokes came back to their home country to work for a foreign company called Maruti Suzuki. Real perfect patriotism! Kudos!

People who are happy here, not because some laidoff workers came back. Its about a positive strategy to beefing up Maruthi's expansion plans which will benifit thousands of direct/indirect employees in long run. And millions of households. Just think where IT/BPO started and how many millions of Indians benefit all over the country with direct/indirect jobs.

There are benefits to slavery ... people throw the leftovers to you. All the IT/BPO/Call Center workers are white collar slaves. There is nothing to be proud about that. It is doing the country nothing besides increasing the migration to cities and choking up the roads.

You think so much of yourself. Wait for your day when you will realize how much this arrogance will cost you. This is not joke. You can laugh then.

Help! My money doubled in my bank. Help! I feel good! Help! Life is good! Help! I still have a job.
This is not that taste of everyone, especially when speaking about the world market. India gains much like any other 3rd world nation by taxing her people when it comes to buying the cars. Like e.g, Mercedes Benz Kompressor C 180 would cost about $ 22000 in the US and many other countries and the same in India is taxed about 230%. By the way Alto, A Star, Swift are fit for Pizza delivery boys in these nations, so where is the competition.

Hi Ashraf, it is better to walk than run like a horse and die with dehydration. In other words, you dont have to copycat magnanimous ventures the west do. So be it if our cars are just for Pizza deliverers in those countries to start with. We can learn on the way and create a stable company and country for thousands of employees and millions of citizens. Simple example our grea ISRO. They started taking their rockets on a bicycle to testing pad. Look where we are today. So, be positive !

where did you get the figure of $22,000 for a Merc C class ?? Do some research on the internet. It costs twice as much on the road in US.

No man it is not, may be you are referring to E class. the basic starts from that fig and goes up to $ 26000
I appriciate this move of Maruti. They will have better knowledge of the world market and they can computate better. Maruti will grab a major part of the International Car market soon.
Maruti should learn that they could only compete in India.Dont waste your vital resources by trying to compete world wide for example the design of A star...what sort of a car it is?..it is the worst design came out from the maruti and dreams of competing internationaly?....plese dont Joke!!!

Maruti not even hold 1% of Business share in USA. They only sell scarp cars in India. In USA safety are important & Maruti car are substandard in safety features.

No wayy..that a company like Maruti can compete in Global Market. I duly accept that they manufacture sub-standard cars which is actually a world known fact. Even such lower graded stuffs have a gr8 demand in India , tht goes to show the level of compromise we r ready to accept for a low cost buying. Its not left with the company... they generally try to tap the market according to the demand.. For instance , they cannot try to sell out their much know Maruti 800 models in US or UK markets, coz consumers there dont compromise on safety, luxury for money.. Simple facts ...!!

by rajesh tiwari on Aug 21, 2009 02:02 PM
I dont know why people comment when they dont even have a sensible way of thinking. There is no way Maruti will take its 800 model to USA. It does not adhere to standards of USA auto regulations. What it means is if Maruti thinks of taking any model to USA then they will design a car which adheres to US regulations , which means in the initial stages you need talent from US , so you can build upon. And this is what Maruti is trying to do .. I am sure efficiency and technical skills available in India will help Maruti to get some share in US or lets world market ... we will see when that happens ...

Grow up kid... Maruti 800 is a way old story. Do you know the Maruti Swift 3Door and 5Door are the very popolar models in Europe and US?? Maruti Suzuki has a caliber to compete in Global Market..Dont comment if you dont know the fact.
