There should be no reduction in ATF prices
by shashwat jain on Aug 13, 2009 11:56 PM  | Hide replies

not more than 1 percent of the population travel by planes, and those who can afford are flying. even if the prices are reduced poor wont be able to afford traveling by air.
why concessions in this country are only given to who are already rich?

Why to reduce the price??
by mailme alladin on Aug 13, 2009 04:19 PM  | Hide replies

We always advocate fpr market economy but at the same time we expect govt to bear additional cost. If the price of the fule is high, let the airlines increase the price of ticket and the passenger has to bear.
That is the case with petrol - the end users pay whenever there is a increase in price. why it has to be different in case of ATF.

Profits are for individuals - any loss making unit is nationalised.

Hey even when the price rises the govement discounts the price rise of petrol in India and increases the prices marginally. Even at the all time highprice in India the government was still making losses. So it is just normal if the industries are also getting some benfit more so since the sales tax is exhorbitant... besides what if these comapnies go down... that would be a big loss.. more job losses resulting in lower consumption.. resulting in lower sales and lower profits for comapanies ... and more job sacking... and the cycle continues... some benfit is good as compared to this. Ain\'t it?

Due to taxes, Jet fuel currently costs 40% more in India than elsewhere in the world.

You did not know that, did you?

ATF is not the actual reason!
by sandeep aravindakshan on Aug 13, 2009 03:42 PM  | Hide replies

The actual reason for this whopping 10K Cr loss is not ATF prices. All the airlines operating in India is paying the same price. Even at generous calculations with 0 sales tax for ATF, the airlines would have made 5K Cr loss. i.e. The reason is clearly mismanagement!. They have to restrict there price wars and capacity additions at reasonable levels. Rationalize expenses by working backward from revenues.

They should reduce the salary of pilots too - as I understand that's a major expense for airlines operation.

jet fuel prices

It is appropriate time to bail out the air line industry by reducing the taxes so that they can compete with the other global players in the field. In turn the air line companies should also cut freights to encourage more people to opt for air travel.

How about Textile Industry, Software Industry, Real Estate Industry, and so on. Everyone is having the effects of Recession. Why single out Airline for bail out.

Airport Taxes and duties
by Sharad Gupta on Aug 13, 2009 03:30 PM  | Hide replies

The Govt Shd think Of improving the efficiency of Airports so that this Cost Can be reduced. In A Rs 5000 we pay for a ticket , hardly 2000 reach the Airlines. the balance is airport taxes and duties and security costs

GOOD for OIL PSUs
by Krishna on Aug 13, 2009 03:18 PM

If Govt decides for regulating the ATF price, like petrol and diesel and LPG, that will put the private companies like Reliance and Essar out of ATF business. Govt, however continue to give Oil PSUs oil bonds for their survival. All in all, good for Oil PSUs.
