India should learn its lesson NOW!
by Grizzly on Aug 10, 2009 06:15 AM  | Hide replies

There is so much talent in India, so why dont we use it? Easy question, hard answers!

Our doctors, engineers, commerce people, arts people, sportsmen etc. all go overseas and outperform everyone. Why cant they do it here?

1. Govt policies to support talent in India are virtually non-existent!
2. If some money is allocated for talent development, it is stolen by corrupt officials and nothing reaches aam aadmi who has the talent.
3. Media is corrupt and biased. Even if someone invents a technology, media wont give them exposure unless they pay these corrupt journos money to write about their product.
4. Private Venture-capitalists(like in US) are vitrually non-existent in India. In US and west, there are rich people who know that if they put money in bank, they might get something like 2 to 6% interest on savings. But if they can find a good product and sponsor it's manufacturing, they will get returns of 20% or more per year. So why not sponsor talent and make money? In India there is so much black money hidden under beds. That could be used to finance our talent. If govt can find ways to bring out that money into financing our talent, ultimately everyone will win. People with black money can make it white, people with talent will get sponsors for their product, aam aadmi will get jobs from setting up of factories or offices, Govt will get taxes from the business and foreign currency if this product is exported and country will get good reputation.

5. Banks dont lend to talented people becoz they usually dont have enough collateral. Also, banks havent yet developed a system of lending to smart ideas. Banks want to play ti safe and lend to people who can mortgage their properties, FD's, gold etc.

Again, lack of direction from govt! If govt shows direction to banks, they will start lending to talented entrepreneurs.

Some people are job-mentality people and they will only look for jobs, which is fine but there are some people who are business-minded and wont be happy in jobs. These people would want to start their business and create something new. India needs to create space for such people becoz they generate jobs. Most often these people will be misunderstood by the society, even their own relatives.

But these people might turn out to be the future Tata's and Mallaya's of India. India needs to find these rough diamonds and polish them. India needs to link them with investors and exporters.

Its like investing in our children. We send them to schools, tutions, universities etc. for what? So that they can become independent and one day make us proud! Well, these talented people are the children of India and they need to be helped.

Believe 2 countries should not be included

If we see the top 10 innovative nations list: I was wondering how Iceland and Ireland are in this list.

Iceland - Last year this is first country who declared as bankruptsy in recession. IMF and World bank pump into US$11 billion to rescue their goverance, and 3 major local banks merged with 75% ownership taken by Govt. to stabilise the financial system in Iceland. How it will be in top 10? If they have innovative power, then they should get out from this recession rather than country declared as bankruptsy! Is not it?

Ireland - It is country with highly dependant on agriculture, textiles industry. It has got advantage in Europe, and London (Biggest financial hub in the world, overtaken NY in 2007 according to Financial Times, NY), that has given Dublin as an emerging financial hub in future.

But, I had seriously thought that for these 2 spots, we should fav. either of any countries Germany,Taiwan, Holland, France, England.

Singapore, I agree with their governance, hassle free business network, well maintain MRT/SMRT, Airport (Can anyone believe, in 1981 their govt. sanctioned US$2 billion for budget for Changi Airport, and now it is 5th bussiest airport with annual 38 million passenegers travel. It is the biggest financial hub after overtaken HK in Asia, 3rd biggest after London and NY. Biggest plus point is despite of many ethnics are living here(69%Chinese,11% Malays,9%Indians mostly tamilians. But,there is no racism,1 of the safest nation. Wish India could be

India too is innovative - just on different parameters
by rajiv sharma on Aug 09, 2009 09:12 PM  | Hide replies

I do not agree with the survey. India is highly innovative country. It is just that Indian parameters are different, for example,

1. Indians have kept adding in their bulging population in the name of innovation right from 1947.

2. Suppressing demand instead of increasing supply and adding to the capacities is and has been Indian innovation to tackle all kinds of problems, from power to transportation.

3. Acts of supreme stupidity by everyone is masterly Indian innovation. Look at our parliament it has everyone from daughter, son, etc. to goons/murderers etc.

4. Living in fools paradise and making population believe in it is a typical Indian innovation. EVERY problem will be solved in next 20 years, and so OUR leaders claim always. THOUGH, these next 20 years will keep shifting.

India is a highly innovative country. ASK this: How can a nation who has second largest arable land, largest net of rivers and fairly good tropical weather is still a poor country?

BECAUSE, Indians are innovative and they have kept this nation poor by their innovative practices in looting and plundering this nation.

Indian education system does not encourage creativity and innovation. Indian schools teach lopsided humanities esp History which makes Indians unable to have a clear perception of political dynamics and deal with terror. Indian younger generation are the biggest imitators anywhere. They want to be western, are indifferent to their own heritage, the creative arts as in Bollywood are one huge pretentious imitation. India got to get its act togehter and stop producing phony celebrities for a start.

There are many states in India that has done Innovation more than may be Singapore or South Korea. But as a nation we need to do so much in terms of employment, corrupion, quality of life and so on.We just need discipline and everything will be fine. How to bring discipline? We have enough innovative minds and resources to build a great nation.Dabbahwala buisness is a good example of innovation and discipline for us more than Infosys or Tata's for us.

LOL explain how India has done more innovation than singapore or South Korea..

South Korea is the MOST WIRED country in the world with the largest broadband for internet. It has the largest electronics company in the world. It has a whole city dedicated to Digital Media and has ubiquitous city with linked network. I don't see how India has this kind of technology..
Korea has refridgerators that tells you what food is in it, with their expirary dates and the best ways to cook them.

S.Korea has smartphone industry which if you look at the barcode of any products in any marts in S.Korea, it'll automatically compare it's prices with other similar products in the whole country.

India has hand propelled wagons..

Who says India is not innovative. Very few nations beats us in the business lines of wholesale bribery, money on the sly, money laundering, scams and favor-for-favor.

Boston Consulting has strong presence in India. Haven't they heard of Laluiusm and a certain Mr. LPY whose relatives receive astro amounts of commission from insurance companies in absolutely legal way just signing papers?

by waste cricket on Aug 09, 2009 01:24 PM

When, even after the govt spends lakhs and lakhs of rupees on every IIT & IIm graduates, they leavd India looking for higher salaries and better comforts in other countries, the innovation definitely happens at the grassroot levels in India. And, those guys never get any credit for their contributions there also, when their local ounterparts get away with all the honours.

The Indians in any way excel with little little innovations which make larger impact on the society like Hepatitis B vaccine by Shantha Biotech, Cataract surgeries by Aravind hospital in Madurai, Diesel fuel pump by MICO Bosch in Bangalore, thinnest watch by Titan in Hosur etc.
