There are alternative

The Congress Party helped Mamata Banerjee to drive out Tata from west Bengal, the central government is not giving permission for Mitsubishi to set up chemical plants or the state government to set up airospace industries in Andal, Arjun Singh will not give any money for the universities in West Bengal.
There are acute power shortage because the central government is taking away all good quality coals from West Bengal and supplying bad quality imported coal from Indonesia. Central government refused to supply India-made boilers to the Thermal plants in West Bengal, instead it gave China-made junk boilers, which are breaking down causing power shortages.
Now The Congress will want to kill us, by giving a junk nuclear reactors from USA, designed by some wiz-kid MBAs from Harvard, this will cause accidents just like UNION CARBIDE plant in Bhupal.
We certainly do not want US made junks. Instead the government can build ten Thermal plants and ensure adequate supply of coal. Electricity from nuclear plants are 6 times more expensive than produced by Thermal plants. Who is going to buy these expensive electricity? It will be another ENRON.
The Government should better concentrate on Solar energy by conventional way( American way) or putting a Solar reflector in the Outer Space ( Russian way). That will be cheaper in the long run and perfectly safe.

Look at these commies. These fools says we won't eat anything if it is thrown in to our plate by USA but we will swollow even the spit if it was from China/France anybody but US. They do not understand how much harm they are doing to PEOPLE OF BENGAL by denying Nano/Nuclear Plant/Any developmental projects. I sometime wonder why in the world otherwise intelectual and earstwhile bangalis keep electing these Communist fools ?

Nobody, except Mamata Banerjee supported by Sonia Gandhi and Amar Sigh, has rejected Tata or any development projects in Bengal. In fact the central government refused to give any development projects or contracts for the private sector in West Bengal since 1950. West Bengal has lost everything in 1947.

What a good Politics.
by Mustafa Fani on Oct 15, 2008 08:35 PM

Every one knows that CPM opposes US, be it a nuclear deal or this time its a power plant. though power plant will benifit the state and country for progress, but the main problem it is built by US, and this time centre is playing politics by alloting US built plant to West bengal and france built plant to maharashtra, it can vice-versa this but centre will not, they will show that see west bengal is opposing every development plans. hats off to centre

chernobyl is history, get over it!
by kaka on Oct 15, 2008 07:27 PM  | Hide replies

How long will people keep invoking the Chernobyl card to spread fear about the dangers of a nuclar plant? It's been decades since the Cherny disaster and nuke plant technology has come leaps and bounds since.
Everything tech is prone to accidents in its infancy. Even planes and trains used to suffer regular accidents in their initial years but would you use that as proof now to not use them?
And besides, the Chernobyl accident was due to mishandling by the workers and was not because of some flaw inherent in the reactor itself. If you don't brake the car is going to crash!

Chernobyl accident was caused not by the workers but it took place during ascientific experiment on that plant. A number of Soviet scientists were killed inside the plant.

DEVELOPMENT IN LEFT BASTIONS
by damodaran mohan on Oct 15, 2008 06:23 PM

As long as people like Prakash Karat , Bardhan etc. contineue to live in 'denial mode' in the past world, development in the LEFT states are bound to suffer. Earlier the peolple of the states realise better it is.

Dear Amitabh

The question could be 'does any thing work in India'? Reading today morning's clips and a sample of them read as:
1. PIL against Nano in Gujarat
2. MNS threatens (yet again) this time to Jet Airlines. Political goondaism at its peak.
3. Tamil MPs threaten the govt, and PM gives a statement on Sri Lanka. Really a timid PM
4. Jalandhar NRI wife paraded naked. I wonder what it woud take to shoot such sarpanches who inflict unrepairable damage to the female and her children. By the way, was the painter punished too? Probably not- he was a male !
5. Lastly, this Nuclear power threat.
So, my friend, I sound as pessimist, but I dont know what else to be, reading such news day in and day out !

nuclear plant near sea
by pearl pearl on Oct 15, 2008 05:31 PM

It is evident from NPC that a nuclear power plant should be near the coast as it will be easier to haul large machines by sea or barrages to the sites. More the interior a power plant be more is the difficulty for installation and transportation. So gujrat, maharastra, kerala tamil nadu and orrisa are good candidates for a nuclear power plants. Now there are so many safe guards that chernobyl like incident is not possible . More over these plants will be under the supervision of IAEA for safty checks and operations, emmissions and environmental safety. So no need to panic , let thousand bulbs get lit by nuclear power. It is only solution. Thermal power is heavy on railways and polluting.
