Instead of going hitech (which is norm in Middle East) they could have gone traditional. In fact with the kind of money they got they can turn deserts into green places which if done on massive scale, lets say hundreds of square kilometers, they can start absorbing excessive CO2 to generate oxygen (and in doing so they can claim carbon credits) create employment, turn the country to agro society which it never was. This they can do only now as long as they have petro dollers. For a start they can plant jatropa and later when the land slowly becomes fertile they can grow normal crops.
When Dubai planned the indoor ski slope, the world said it is impossible. Now it is there, the only one of its kind. The other one is now coming up in New Jersey. It is all money, science, enthusiasm and commitment. And most importantly NO POLITICIANS in Abu Dhabi.
