85% of 60000 crores will not reach the farmers
by raj on Mar 06, 2008 09:16 AM  | Hide replies

this is a stat that has been approved by rajiv gandhi. the current Fm says, that a developing economy cant afford to plug leaks, and that a developing economy has to ignore corruption.

how quaint, given that a ruling party gets all the money, the more developmental scheme ear marked for the rural - the more likely the chances of wholesale corruption. just goes to show that in the garb of aa admi schemes - congress makes money by the truck loads.

if this anti farmer attitude of government is continuous then by 2020 we will have to declare farmers as minority and declare the project for farmers just as project to save wild life and tigers we are just for getting mahatma gandhi teaching of leaving in village on the contrary we are destroying villages and creating cities where the poor farmers has no place to survive
also daridri narayan of swami vivekanand is no more in existance now rane narayan is mighty? who is having all the land as authanticated by private loans to poor farmers of konkan area?

No waiver but low interest payment please!!
by Anumakonda JAGADEESH on Mar 06, 2008 08:59 AM

While I appreciate the spirit behind Farmer's Loan Waiver, past experience shows giving doles in India is counter productive. In the Past when Devilal was Deputy Prime Minister Farmers loans were waived which left financial crunch by the next Government. In India if you give anything free, people misuse it. Department of Non-Conventional Energy Sources distributed free of cost around 3000 water pumping windmills. In Andhra Pradesh itself over 500 of them were erected. Not even one windmill working in Andhra Pradesh today. There was stampede for Rs 1000 in Tamil Nadu where around 40 people died. Doles may win votes but ruin the economy. Actually the suicide deaths by farmers were due to abnormal interest paid to private lenders. The Government should take stringent measures to control private money lenders. The National Farmers Commission recommended loans at 4% interest with repayment period of 4 to 5 years. There are millions of unemployed youth and the Government should consider providing employment opportunities especially in the farm sector which facilitates improved economy. The suicide deaths were there for the past 10 years and how is it the Government suddenly wakeup. Is it not political stunt to get farmers votes? The Government should make people work and know the value of money rather than giving doles to catch votes.

State of Vidarbha
by on Mar 06, 2008 04:06 AM

I have lived in western Maharashtra as well as Vidarbha. Any person visiting can immediately notice disparity of growth, funds for development, quality of life, irrigation projects old, new, load shedding (although major power generated in Vidarbha). The policy makers in MS always have benefit of Western Maharashtra on their plans and actions. Majority land in Vidarbha is rain fed versus irrigated in western Maharashtra. All villages in Vidarbha have 14-18 hours power cut. No new industries or employment generation is really taking place. Although all big plans of development happen is through huge announcements and then within year or so project die out of funds unavailability or diversion to projects in western MS. Worst part, the equipments eventually land up somewhere in Kolhapur or Satara or Nasik without announcement citing inefficiency or closure of project. The political voices are happy for personal gains. Its some kind of people movement only can save people of Vidarbha. Immediate solution could be elect only reps that can do or do work for people, others with lip service need to be kicked out. All Cong and Nationalist congress leader junta should not be entertained. Off course, people need to get together for their own growth and prosperity than rely on useless govt.
