salary cuts???
by raj on Jun 26, 2008 12:21 AM

Nobody is outsourcing jobs to India because we are any genius -- they are outsourcing because we provide value-added services at a cheap rate.

Now the rate is becoming expensive, so US will move jobs elsewhere or automate it

The fact is, IT/BPO companies are paying the price for their own mistakes of poaching, paying high salary to attract staff in the name of free market.

we employees played a part in it as well

so now why are we complaining now??

Spending to reduce the value...joke of the day!
by Welcome on Jun 26, 2008 12:02 AM

Too much money spending will only INCREASE the value of the currency. People in this message board are spreading the wrong message, one, because they may be jealous and two, they find themselves in the wrong place after going through the hardship of leaving India and settling abroad. By the way, Bush distributing free Dollars in the name of tax rebates makes the Dollar weak...people living abroad should mind their own beeswax.

Inflation & salary hike
by Tom Dick on Jun 25, 2008 08:25 PM

Who benifits from salary hike? The Malls and shop keepers. I had been to Gurgaon and recently to Bangalore and Mumbai. I am surprised to see youngsters spending money at the malls like there is no tomorrow. Too much money to spend automatically will reduce the value of money.

BPO Fighting inflation
by yugal joshi on Jun 25, 2008 10:05 AM

I believe though the situation demands stern action, IT companies are happy in these times because it gives them an excuse to perform their cost cutting measures by blaming the macro environment. If we calculate the transport subsidy or food subsidy as a total % of income or expenditure it would be minuscule. Moreover considering that the overall recruitment scenario is grim, even not raising salaries to the same extent as last year will not impact attrition in a significant way. In fact when analysts write bad things about IT industry the industry is happy because its employee retention programs deliver the intended benefit.

Worth of money
by Prashant Mulay on Jun 25, 2008 08:42 AM  | Hide replies

Money is what it can buy. Yes what it can buy. If your salary increases by 3 times over last 5 years but you have to buy the same appartment you dreamt of for 1.6 crs now instead of 60L back then..you are running at the same place.
but looking at high salaries all the well established NRI are coming back to India??? and becoming VP in a BPO??? and sstill feel that getting tonnes of BPO jobs is great for the country as so I all the malls that have sprung up. I am from Mumbai now settled abraod...and i can say that mumbai needs more gardens and parks and a good waterfront and not malls.

when more people earn more and more amounts of money, the value of money depreciates. simple inescapable fact of life. about 15 years ago the number of people earning a crore of rupees (as salary) a year were probably 10 or 15 in all of india. now there must be atleast a few thousand of them.

so now theres loads of people who are loaded with cash, and they are chasing the same scarce commodity - space. when demand outstrips supply, prices rise. theres nothing much, you or the govt can do. praying might help, but braying senselessly definitely doesnt.

Well said... who needs these hangouts in the form of malls. More garden and park are very much needed.

I dont know why the govt is not able to control the costs, everything has become so costly, right from daily need goods to luxury goods...

Hope we get normal soon, every body in bleeding in this inflation hit period.
