the CA course is just a eyewash where favouritism exists. they have a fixed quota system where you will find students struggling to get thru for many years and in that bargain lose time, energy, patience and valuable earnings which they can get by getting other degrees like management and IT.

CA's in demand
by SHANMUGASUNDARAM PALANIVEL on Jul 21, 2008 10:01 AM  | Hide replies

There is a great demand for CAs. It is time to increase the number of persons passing CA Exams. There are lot of students eagerly enrolling themselves to become CAs. But in India we do not have a regular college course for CA. One can become a Doctor or Engineer by studying in a regular college for four years but not CA. The ICAI should come forward to authorise NAAC accredited colleges to conduct full time courses for CA. It should design the course prescribe syllabus, approve colleges conduct exams and enrol members. It may play a role like AICTE or AIMC in this regard. In many countries a four year BBA Honours course followed by a two or three year internship has been prescribed for becoming a Public Accountant. ICAI can follow this model. Now, in India students study in private coaching classes in crowded rooms at odd hours located at far away places. They have to attend classes for different subjects at different places. The interns are paid lower stipend and have to work extended hours. Those who pass with higher marks in 12th exams in commerce group join reputed colleges to do their B.Com and simultaneously study CA. But the recent cicular of ICAI to start the artilce ship work betweein 9 and 11 am has dampemned their enthusiasm and many switch to MBA course.
The ICAI may be pleased to withdraw this circular immediately and pave way for those studying in regular collegege to become CAs. Then only you can get qualified CAs. The life of C

Dear Shanmugasundaram,

You are absolutely right.

First of all power of auditing should be removed from CAs.

There should be parallel certification bodies should be setup and conduct exams only for auditing for CPA, CMA, there should be certified professional auditor.

Why dont they come up with a strategy to help economy and generate more jobs.

I think Mr.praba krishna is afraid of his job as CA.

I disagree with this view. All the professional exams in US, Australia, Canada, etc., do not have any system of regular colleges. The concept of getting true professionals with knowledge will be lost. Rather it is more important to fight against certain issues like:
1. There is big difference in salary structures which is offered to CA's.
2. There are good no of CA's working in Middle East and other parts of world. People are coming back to India but if the incentives are good, people will come at fast rate.
3. To improve the quality of CA in terms of knowledge and experience.
4. Increase the stipend amount to articles.
5. Punishments to fake CA's as mentioned in the mail.
6. Get accrediation to CA institutes of other countries, so that if required Indian CA's and get into practice with international firms in other countries and which ultimately results in boosting of Indian Economy.
7. Conduct more of technical sessions and seminars on upcoming issus in smaller states/ cities. Students over there do not get benefits like what a student get advantages in metropolitans.
8. Indian Institute is no. 2 in world in terms of members. We should not look for increasing the no. of CA's, rather it is more important to have quality education for CA's.

Kovid if Indian CA's are truly professional then how come there is so much corruption in almost every area of Business in India. Each & every CA in India knows he is aiding and abetting companies in India to evade taxes, excise duties and reporting norms.

If all PROFESSIONALS in India were truly ETHICAL as per the ETHICAL CONDUCT norms they swear to abide by then we could cut corruption a great deal.

It is because of CORRUPT PROFESSIONALS like CA's, Lawyers, Doctors, CS's etc that is the reason why CORRUPTION FLOURISHES.

If CA's truly act PROFESSIONALLY a lot UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES would fast disappear.

So please dont go about claiming CA's are in anyway going to help the Nation it ICAI and its MEMBERS are the fountain head of Financial Corruption in Idia

You people always talk about shortage of the CAs in the market but fail to give fair and level playing field for other professionals like CWAs and CSs. Also crib about the recognition of MBAs in the industry. Why can't you work together. Other day, ICAI news informs that they have a shortage of professionals. It is time to recognise the other professionals. Don't rely just on statutory support and lobbying.

I disagree with this view. If the collages are authorised to conduct the CA course and exams the quality of the outcomming Ca,s will be questioned , which is not the question now. And ICAI needs to fight to improve the quality which would be much difficult task with the collages.

Amol Ballal.
