We have had enough!
by shiva on Jan 04, 2008 06:10 AM

We have wasted enough years at the receiving end one of the most dreaded bureaucracies in the world. Nobody bothered to listen and the common man had no clue how to get anything done. Till few years back, one felt you have landed in heaven on seeing how things operate in most countries. Even today, the same feelings are expressed when we land in Shanghai, Singapore, Dubai etc.

There is an attitude change thanks to the private initiatives and the feedbacks of people returning from abroad. We tout our hospitality, but it was always found wanting as others practise it naturally. Of course, they are so much better trained. Our customs & immigration officers have to be ambassadors of the country. We have to upgrade the taxi system to international standards. China is training all to beat others for the Olympics this year. They have educated people in many aspects including the most vital part of keeping the cities clean & pollution free.

Our biggest roadblock has been the moral calibre of the politicians & the bureaucracy. I have received the greatest courtsies from them and also the worst service imaginable. My foreign friend still shudders recalling when he landed at Mumabai many years ago. The connecting flight to New Delhi was cancelled and the reply was " Our PM has taken the plane to go abroad, you can ask him". He could not believe the ears and the utter lack of service, as the staff left without bothering to help in anyway.

We all deserve better.

Privatise airports and Customs of India
by sosamia on Jan 04, 2008 02:26 AM  | Hide replies

the only way to improve the appaling conditions in our airports is to privatise them and then india will have dubai and new york style airports and also give the customs jobs to private security companies so that if any body complains then that company people can be fired

ur solution is partially practicable. but as far as the custom jobs n security is concerned it cannot be handled to any private organisation as it will create loophole n can be athreat to a national security by many means.

I have not gone thro' Mumbai airport recently, but I had the experience of harassement by customs a decade back.
I regularly go thro' Chennai Int'l airport and absolutely no hassels. The infrastucture is improving and all officials are easy going. Iam sure the airport will have all infrastructure once modernisation is completed.

just 3 months i,e in october2007 back i landed mumbai airport & had a horrible experience with customs.they wouldnt spare me untill i gave them 1000 rupees ,when i was carrying nothing except 1 telephone set & clothes.first the authorities should take steps to clean the present airpot from bribes & corruption & then think of constructing new airport.

Realign Traffic For Ease Of Access At CSIA
by Jagdeep Desai on Jan 03, 2008 10:32 PM

Hello,

DOMESTIC

With the construction work, traffic hold up in both directions around the junctions are now throughout the day.

With the exit from the departures being cut through the 'centre' of the parking lot and opening out at the point where traffic currently enters and bifurcates to both the terminals 1A and 1B, it means there is every chance of head on collisions taking place.

Apart from the safety aspect, it would make logical sense for the traffic to be realigned and made to follow a 'clockwise' direction entering the terminal complex, and of course, exiting it.

This means, entry should be to the North of Sahara Star, and exit South of Sahara Star, exactly contra to what is at present.

Apart from the shiny building and now dazzling lighting on the roads, people should enter and leave the airport complex in a hassle free manner.

As it is, private taxis, taxis, airline contracted vehicles, autos, postal vehicles, and many other vehicles do not bother about the one ways within, and go against the traffic, making it dangerous for most vehicles trying to negotiate the road.

INTERNATIONAL

Similarly, the traffic going up the departures ramp and below for the arrivals, can also be realigned, so as to make for smoother and easier flow.

At present it is utter chaos at the intersection on the departures level.

Vehicles turn left for Terminal 2A, natural flow, and turn right for 2C, against the natural flow, loading, unloading take
