Train from Blore to Airport
by MS on Feb 27, 2008 08:19 PM

It will save a lot of hassle to passengers. People from Mysore and other places can go to the airport directly. That will save a lot of congestion and headache. Charge parking fee on cars and use that revenue for public transport.

New Airport for Bangalur
by behramshaw jal kalianwala on Feb 27, 2008 08:02 PM

I think the author has highlighted very valid points. The critic has not justified any erroneous statement by by the author. He has consequently lost his own credibility and wrongfully accused Rediff of losing credibility.

Bengalore - A city of missed chances
by cccc dddd on Feb 27, 2008 07:54 PM  | Hide replies

As a regular visitor to the city, I am convinced Bangalore is easily the most mismanaged city in India. The collective greed of the Industry, politicians and professionals like lawyers has turned the city and the Karnataka state as the most mediocre state in the country. Now the joke of some city leading lights like Biocon chief, few IT chiefs demanding the present HAL airport to be maintained till the connectivity to the new airport is set up.Where were these privileged people all these months and years when the state government was sleeping over the issue? Why the new airport to be penlised for the crooked sloppy sleeping idiotic government? The politicians per se are useless to the society but the kannadigas living in the state have given them a free license to mismanage and also joining them in their collective greed.

Spoken like a true Kannadiga. Don't you want to raise battle calls, invoke Rajkumar, and go wrecking all those doing better than yourself now? Perhaps you should join up with Rak Thakeray to keep outsiders out of Karnataka. That way, you will never need this airport that is anyways going to make flying in/out of Bangalore a bigger pain than it is already.

Haa I wish I can.Your city has deteriorated so fast in the last 20 years, it is now a virtual slum.I avoid as much as possible to visit your city but my clients insist on my presence in the city to sort their technical issues.Thank god for internet,my vist to Bangalore has minimised to one visit a month. The way city has been messed up, you guys literally have no chance.Go and soak yourselves in the countless over priced noisy "so called " pubs!!You guys deserve it.

Jinxed
by BS on Feb 27, 2008 07:54 PM

Well Please name some of the major infrastructure projects in India which got completred without 'JINX' in recent times.

Airports have to be located farther from city.
If you locate Airport closer, then people residing in the vicinity complain of Noise. For example if you stay in Andheri or Vile Parle in Mumbai, you will have to live with deafening noise every 5 minutes.

We need to look ahead. HAL Airport is not at all an Airport. Its too crowded and it takes hours to get your baggage out if 2-3 flights arrive at the same time (for International passengers)

Once the link road projects are completed, then there will be no problems.

by R GANESH on Feb 27, 2008 07:53 PM  | Hide replies

The people of karnataka should learn from the People of Chennai & Hydbd to vote for stable & powerful govts who can lobby at the centre for its growth & infrastructure..... If this type of stupid decisioning in projects like these goes on , then bangalore which started its growth beautifully and at a fast pace will not be in the race at all... Chennai & hydbd have outbeaten bangalore in clinching mega delas from MNCs and govt

Mr. Ganesh knowing fully well that you will elicit an angry response from proud kannadigas I fail to see any logic in your statement. Name one concession that TN has got (except for the wasteful Sethu project) from the central govt. Karnataka has many more central research institutes, public sector undertakings, defence establishments and also some of top class central govt law and management institutes. Something which TN will never be able to boast of! TN has got what it got by it's own merits- good bureacracy, man power and visionary policies of all CMs, not because it is part of central govt.
And coming back to the topic, Bengaluru airport has improved considerably in the last 3 years. Chennai also has a great airport. And it is because both these airports earn a lot of revenue for the AAI. It has nothing to do with political dispensation. But where Chennai will lose out is because of the failure to get a new airport going, despite being #3 busiest, while the rest of the top 6 (except Cal) are getting one!

New airport and the associated problems...
by Manoja on Feb 27, 2008 07:52 PM  | Hide replies

All these stories of taking three hours to reach the airport etc are nonsense... what do people expect??? Build an airport right next to their house??? I remember during 70's, 80's and even during the early part of 90's the present HAL airport was considered way out of city by the then generation!!!

If you consider travelling time from, let us say, Peenya, even to reach the present airport it takes inordinately long. So why crib about the distance to the new airport??? All these talks of three hours, four hours etc is pure bunkum. Agreed, in the initial days, it may be difficult for people to get adjusted to the new airport. But over a period of time, I am sure, they will get adjusted to the new one.

After all the biggest challenge to change is the resistance to change.. right???

Rajiv Shivashankar
The new BIAL airport
by Rajiv Shivashankar on Feb 27, 2008 07:50 PM

Very sadly as it seems, it appears that the new BIAL will be a big boost for rail traffic. For travel to Chennai, Cochin, Hyderabad, Belgaum or Goa, and Madurai, it will be a big boost for Lalu and his railways. The torture of travelling long distances on the present Bellary Road is harrowing. It can become as bad as Hosur Road in the evenings. 42 Kms will take at least 2 to 3 hours, 2 hour check-in period, a 30 minutes flight, and 20 minutes to retrieve checked in baggage is just too taxing. BIAL is a wonder for the long distance traveller.
The state gornment has made a mess of the road connections. The new 72 hour/33 day underpass on the T Chowdaiah Road is a horror, and the guys who dreamt it up should be taken to task for wasting public money. Now the position is bad, and once the airport traffic starts, we will CRAWL past this point. I travel this route everyday and am very familiar with the position there. Unless there is a mag-lev train, or something like that, a 20 minute travel to the BIAL is a far cry, and at present is a misery.
I hope the Karnataka government does take immediate action to make travel to BIAL quicker, and more comfortable.

Simple solution
by Chris on Feb 27, 2008 07:44 PM  | Hide replies

Stop all flights to Chennai and nearby places. Start Volvo buses to these places with better seats. The low cost airlines stink in any case and need to stop flying. Believe me, I have found to my cost that they are really lousy and blithely cancel flights as and when they like. worst cases Go Air, Spice Jet. Indigo is on time but crappy in terms of service, serving cookies and coke on a flight to Delhi from 7 to 9:30 PM.

Did anyone forced you to take low cost Airline? Why didn't you fly J class in Kingfisher?.

Do Railways & Volvo buses serve you free food.

Stop cribbing. Decide whats best for you and then Travel.

by Lakshmi Rai on Feb 27, 2008 07:30 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Vicky nanjappa, if you don't like Bengalooru, you're welcome to move out of the city.

But please don't tell lies on this website.

"Is the new Bengaluru International Airport (see images) jinxed? This was a question asked by several people looking at the number of hurdles".

No body asked this question except for you. Please, if you want to work for a tabloid then be my guest and do that. But as a journalist you have a responsibility to the people.

You must provide the news and not write fiction here.

Rediff. Please, you have already lost a lot of credibility because of sensational and provocative headlines you use and worthless news underneath it.

If you continue this, people will stop respecting you.

You might have already seen this trend by reading the comments of the people.

This is the joke of the century.

Raj Thackeray, Bal Thackaray, Bachchans etc and there's more politics in Bengalooru than in Mumbai! wow! I have been to Mumbai and I agree with one thing though that the city has more crooks, small time and big time rogues, oh and of course the whole underworld seems to be enjoying in the city of Mumbai.

All my foriegn friends when they land in mumbai and get out of the airport, complain that they are greeted by sickening smell of the slums, unlike in Bengalooru.

And this is a fact and I'm not making it up.

I agree wholeheartedly. Flying into Mumbai airport is a nightmare. The approach is full of slums and the airport is lousy- no AC and haphazard queues, corrupt customs and marathi speaking police.
Whereas in Bangalore, despite all the growth you hardly have any evidence of slums. And the traffic problems of Bengaluru are highly overrated. It is growing at an unbelievable rate, so despite efforts the city infrastructure is unable to cope up. And that's because all GoI can think of is to dump money in Delhi. Instead of concentrating all resources on Delhi GoI should aid and plan Bengaluru's public transport. No state govt in India can afford a metro or wide roads,GoI should take care of fast developing cities and not act partially towards Delhi alone.

Oh here is another one who is jealous of the rapid growth of Bengaluru. Can you tell me how many was the "Few years " of Delhi.
Dude, one more thing Delhi and Mumbai were major centers of power and finance from a long time atleast I think for more than 100 years. Delhi being a power center can be traced back to history. In Bengaluru the boom has started very recently in the nineties. Atleast our BMTC is better than blue lines. The crime rate is less. I have read that women are afraid to go out without escort in Delhi. I do not say bengaluru is ideal , but still it is better. Give up your stupid biased. Neither Bengaluru, or Mumbai or delhi sux,it is your shit attitude which sux.
