ticketless travel
by Ram Mohandas on Feb 27, 2008 07:53 AM

I would like some noc or govt.bodys to go into the earnings of railways (in passenger fare earnings)by divisions or atlest area divisions like southern railway, north east exetra to avail information and corrective measures to be taken for better enforcement.if my guess is true railways can spent crores in employing enforcing staff to ward of this evil and therby make railways more profittable

Indian Railways

The performance review 2007-2008 mentions
"Growth in passanger earnings 14%"
This can be easily increased to atleast 28% or more
IF
All North Indians travelling in north india purchase tickets and pay for the journey
It is a bitter reality - Laluji - check yourself how many passengers travelling in north indian part of railways travel with tickets
Dear All north indian fellow citizens, please do not consider my comments as any type of abuse or insult, but IT IS BITTER REALITY

Any north indian reading this post, I consider him or her as well educated, and must be purchasing tickets.

But I am talking about millions of others(who are not able to read this post) use railways as their ancesterial property and not pay for the journey

what is stated by mr.desai contains an element of truth in it.i have personnelly experienced this fact during my travels in norh india years back, most of the ticketless travellers are well dressed and presumably wage earners who can afford to pay for their travel.do not hesitate to say they are willfully doing this and ticket checkers are not at all concerned to enforce law as they are least bothered weather railway loose money or not.if enforcement is made more vigilant railways can make more profit and even consider lowering of fares further.

I did experience this once I was travelling from Lucknow to New Delhi. At Muzarabad station a group of Milkmen with cans of milk boarded the reserved bogie and woke us up and sat besides us - they never had any tickets ...

Well whatever prakash means cannot to be termed as a feature of North India only. This happens everywhere in India. If there is a travel req for a poor person but paucity of funds, there will be ticketless travel, no limited to North India.
Another point is u guys assume that the poor people are the only one's who creates non sense. Everywhere in India I have seen well educated people boarding trains with waitlisted tickets and giving money to the Ticket Checker to take some kind of a berth. Do you think thats fine?

It can't be Lalu alone
by Salman Khan on Feb 27, 2008 02:05 AM

After reading all these details of the railway budget and so much improvements in all sections of the railways and looking into the future of the railways, it can't be Lalu alone who did this.
Although I appreciate Lalu giving a surplus budget and proving that he is a good minister, I think we should alalu in implementing and achieving these schemes and making a profit for the railways.

Well done to the employees of Indian Railways.
