Flop Show
by BS on Feb 20, 2008 08:20 AM  | Hide replies

This IPL will be a big flop show. It was created with the sole purpose of killing the ICL. We have seen how popular was ICL.

Its only a glorified version of Ranji matches with imported players.

People watch cricket matches when they are played for the country.

Guys if patriotism is the reason for masses to watch cricket then why are they not watching India under 19 team matches now. The public will watch good quality cricket match. Many hardcore cricket fans watched matches like thatn 400 chase of SA which did not feature India. People pay for cricket quality. And you can always patronize a team bearing your city's name. Lack of sports culture in India is the primary reason why we dont seem to understand launch of a professional league in India. This will add variety to cricket with international cricket day in and day out proving to be stale

don't assume too much. IPL may flop but it can be a success also.

I think the 20-20 format will make it click.

Check the history.

1) Double wicket format flopped.

2) Afro-Asian experiment , a no show.

3) The benefit matches involving 'imported players', no takers.

4) No. of people watching Ranji matches can be counted on fingers.

As of now the viewers spend their time watching 'INDIA' playing other countries. Nationalistic pride is the key motivational factor for watching a match.

What motivates the players to play well or the captains to take best decisions? Its only the Money in IPL. They are being paid anyway for playing.

Who cares whether Vijay Mallaya's team wins or Mukesh Ambani's team wins?. Unless ofcourse they introduce betting , just like horse racing.

reason for the failure of other intiatives are lack of spirit and poor quality of the matches. IPL is just like club football in europe. Or like NBA or NHL in USA. here ambani's and mallay's will do every thing to make it popular. And the players need to play well to stay in the team. That will bring best out of them. IPL is here to stay. ICL failed beacuse there is no club or franchise in ICL. ICL divides players into different teams and plays. But IPL is different.

PUNE - If you live in these areas, beware!
by fire desire on Feb 20, 2008 07:55 AM  | Hide replies

PUNE: Citizens better watch out, particularly if you live any of the 18 localities which has been identified by the city crime branch as %u2018most prone%u2019 to house break-ins and thefts (HBTs).

An analysis of 1,300 HBTs reported in 2007 by the crime branch has revealed that it is not just the fringe areas, such as Chinchwad village, Nigdi, New Sangvi, Dhankawadi and Mithanagar, but upmarket areas like Shivajinagar, are also prone to house break-ins. These are the localities that figure prominently in the list prepared by the crime branch.

Other areas include Pimpri-Chinchwad New Town Development Authority (PCNTDA), Bhosari, Hadapsar, Wanowrie, Old Sangvi, Kalewadi, Aundh, Yerawada, Bibvewadi, Tingrenagar and Kondhwa.

In fact, Chinchwad village, Nigdi, PCNTDA, Hadapsar and Wanowrie had reported over 20 HBTs each in 2007.

The remaining localities saw between 10 to 20 cases of thefts and house break-ins last year. There are 50 more areas, such as Sadashiv Peth, Nana Peth, F.C. road, Prabhat road, J.M. road, Sinhagad road, Maharshinagar and Handewadi, among others, which reported between 5 to 10 HBTs in 2007.

The common modus operandi employed by thieves was breaking locks or cutting window grills to enter the house.

Other methods deployed were breaking door latch, use of duplicate keys to open locks and driving holes in the walls of jewellery shops.

FM to note, potential money spinning & creating machine is BCCI/IPL. Your shortage of revenues can be matched with these money making machines in the country.

FM should have a different Income Tax slab for these BCCI / IPL instead of the one used for salaried class people. He will earn more tax returns from these people who have so much of money which can be thrown on the cricket field.

Do you feel people of kolkata will feel passionately about their home team? WIll people of Mumbai feel the same way toward their IPL team? People do not even go to see Ranji finals in large numbers. What are these guys talking about?

Dont expect poeple start feeling personally in the first year. But you just wait and watch. IPL is here to stay.
Just see how club soccer is popular in europe. I'm sure you are not following European league, NBA or NHL or any kind of professional league. Thats why you have made such a comment.

And why exactly is that?
If you can accept the concept of Syed Kirmani playing for Railways or Gavaskar's son playing for Assam?
What's wrong with IPL? Sure, they have already commercialized the $rap out of cricket, it's only going to get worse. But just imagine coming home, switching on the "local" game and opening up a beer, or eating "rasam sada", whatever. They are trying to emulate and better the concept of American football, NBA, and imagine this, the monetary power is probably ten fold in this. Too many people are going to be rich, including small time players who could never aspire for the "BCCI -11", and were politicked out.

Dont watch Dude!!! Nobody is begging you to watch IPL. I am sure once the matches start - you would be one of the first people to comment on this forum about the match and again how bad somebody or something is. Go get a life and stop being negative. Dont just state problems - also state a friggin solution.

Sadly the commercialization of cricket is taking the toll on the game and players. The once "Gentleman's" game is now totally in sledging, betting and gone to the extent of people like hansie, azhar, jadeja doing irrepairable damage to the game. The entry of film stars and politicians will just make the game more murkier and will be another form of horse racing or like a grand casino. I hope it doesnt end up in players being killed like Woolmer.
