Interesting..
by Sandeep Menon on Dec 18, 2008 03:16 AM

What's most interesting in an article like this, especially on rediff, is the comments that it generates. The moment I start reading a 'general' article that's put together by asking few questions to a couple of folks/companies and extrapolating the answer, I tend to ignore the rest. The best part is always the comments to such articles where people bashing begin. For the most part I am sad that we Indians do this to each other. But, on a day when I have 2-3 hrs of spare time in office, I tend to read a few of these comments. Not sure how many will read this post of mine, but can I request the ones who do read this to give a thought to the 'what purpose will my post serve' idea, before posting. I hope my post will reduce the number of unnecessary posts on public forums, and have atleast one (more) person thinking before posting. Isn't one of the earliest lessons we learnt - "Look before you leap"?

Stupidity rules !!!!
by DR on Dec 18, 2008 01:24 AM  | Hide replies

Lets do some simple math. An Indian engineer in the US gets about $100000 a year. That engineer is considered "highly paid and costly" and the job gets transferred to India for lets say about one third the cost. Now the salary for the guy in India is abotu $33000 ayear close to 15-16 lakhs per annum. With a paltry saltry of 16 lacs, how can these morons buy a house starting at 75 lacs ? A simple 20% downpayment is itself 15 lakhs. So assuming the Indian engineer lives on the road, eats no food but shit and saves all his 15 lakh salary, he still has to wait for atleast 1 year just for the down payment. Remember I have assumed 0% income taxes. Over and above, the engineer has to pay EMI at atleast 10% PA ? How is this even possible ? Are people assuming that the salaries will keep on increasing 25% a year with no threats of layoffs ? If the salary keeps on rising 25%, then the western cos would not want this "now high priced engineer". All I can say is that these engineers have not only overrated their earning potential but also their skills. Oh BTW, a builder as now put up a new list of homes starting as low as 1 crore. Go techies go bid

Your simple math isn't correct. If Indian engineer can't afford to pay 75L with an inidan salary of 15LPA(5 times of his annual pay), How can US morons can pay 500K house with 100K annual salary? Don't spit venom on Indian techies. You are not fallen from heaven....Logic is simple anywhere and everywhere on this world.

It doesn't matter whether the people in US buy a house times their salary. My point was aimed more at this folly being committed in India. Now that you have brought up the US case, u r still complementing my point of view. It is going to take a long time before all the unwinding in the US comes to an end. I cant comprehend on what basis the dimwit author says that the unwinding will be over and the recovery will start in 2009. And there are fools who believe this.

by Sameer Bhagwat on Dec 18, 2008 01:10 AM

Truth is no one knows. These kind of articles are humbug.. where were these guys 1 year back? When they can't forecast a downturn, how can they forecast an upturn? No amount of MBA knowledge is going to help. Market turns are driven by invisible and intagible forcs and its next to impossible to predict, only we can look behind and say .. this is what caused the change. All these articles make no sense.

WHITE HOPES
by rgopi on Dec 17, 2008 01:03 PM  | Hide replies

Americans are now pawning their household objects to make ends meet. The idiot bush and his fake war on terror consumes several millions a month.

A country which was built on scientific research has halted all important research in healthcare.

It is going to be worse than in dotcom bust, for here it is not dotcom coys going bust it is almost every coy and bank.

None of these indian IT guys are programmers just coolies. The real techies are out abroad. Despite the hype the real job is just cut and paste and the job that is created in India has the worst kind of quality issues.

A guy who has spent several years in a wipro and TCS has wasted those years. They are unlikely to find a job in mainstream engineering.

It is because of these narcisstic idiots that the cost of living has gone up like hell. Come on guys indian metros are not monte carlo or florence like cities. They just a urban slum. This in no way justifies the cost of living.

Even the rate cut on home loans is just to alleviate the builders distress. I am sure there will be no takers for jobs are being lost in the bat of an eyelid.

Go back to your mainstream job in accordance with your qualification, get trained, start learning the nittygritty. Try to lead a team and then a department and an organization, polish your english and your grooming.

never get enamored by swanky offices and free lunches. You may end up starving the rest of your life.

Dont take upto debt culture

Your comments on Indian techies are simply incorrect. I recruited 10 H1B holders for my project due to unavailability of visa ready candidates in my company...already 3 of them were laid-off reasons owing to poor performance...One thing I can assure you...These H1B morons fake every damn skill on earth to get a job. This is also prevalent in India but not to the extent it exists in US
