Pay Hike
by Sam on Aug 16, 2008 08:12 PM

Pay hike is good, timely. But how to make them accountable? Any solutions / thoughts? I feel, if the bosses accept accountability then the lower levels will also do so. Question is when such amazing thing will happen?

Do they really work for their pay
by anthony jenson on Aug 16, 2008 07:16 PM

do you think salary should be increased it should actually be reduced for the work they actually do it would have been better if they give a contract to private company to do some work with the money they are spending on salary.

when initially it was reported that the salary hike in the govt. sector would be 42 percent, thousands of abuses started pouring in the rediff discussion forum, mostly from people who get a khujli anytime anything good happens to anyone.

now that the pay hike is said to be 21 percent, the number of abuses has reduced a little bit, but there are still who would love to see the rest of the people getting poorer.

well, accounability, efficiency etc. are certainly better in the private sector, but it comes with its own evils. i know of people who got cheated by private banks simply becos they were not "smart enough" to read between the lines in loan schemes.

private companies (esp. those which are foreign based) are out here to loot the country. and there are people who will swear by these companies becos they can sell their parents for the sake of money.

agreed that the govt. sector needs huge changes. but my friends in this forum who are itching will probably understand that it will NOT come by denying a good life to anyone. after all, private companies are no saints either.

PPls are absusing it because they are tax payers, and this hike come from taxes paid by peoples who work in private sector too.

Don't forget the huge money paid to you babus whose efficiency is wors in the world.
Do you need any certificate to proove it.

Vishal you idiot -- you talk of people getting 'khujli' when something good happens? Why don't YOU pay for all these 'goodies' out of your own pocket, instead of getting the taxpayer to pay it? Listen, Santa Claus, the babus are endlessly demanding more perks for themselves. If they don't like what they're already getting, then they should leave their cushy govt jobs and get REAL jobs in the private sector. I suppose you're one of those babus yourself, demanding the 'free goodies', as if nobody on the other end has to pay for it!

Pay hike or vote bank?
by Rajendra Nayak on Aug 16, 2008 06:34 PM

The present government is ready to do anything to remain in power. This is the credibility. Last time it was Mr. Gujral who signed the pay hike but they did not come back to power. Tomorrow the present government will do anything to remain in power. They call themselves social workers and the unorganized sector is thrown into the hands of merciless investors who exploit them to the maximum by giving 30 rupees a day too for 8 hours job.
Those who sit in government offices doing nothing get so much for not working.
This is the future of a great super power in the making calling for more have not to do what they want including threat, robbery, killing looting etc.,

what about, Performance linked pay in Govt
by krishna kumar on Aug 16, 2008 06:10 PM

Pay hike is welcomed, and even subsidies are welcome as it is kind of distribution of wealth, ofcourse inflation will erode some, inflation is the way private/market sector reacts; private guys

what is actually need in govt sector is introducing performance based pay hike in the govt sector, for this kind of initiatives, govt will need to invest in IT to handle those silos of data. GIS based land records,Integration of departments, public grevience, help public participate in the goveranance process.

Not worth it
by jaideep shirali on Aug 16, 2008 05:50 PM  | Hide replies

For every other law in India, there is something called conflict of interest. Why is it that serving or former Govt employees are allowed to decide their own salaries, why not citizens outside the Govt sector? Secondly for all the complaints, every citizen has to pay for endless DA hikes that take place between one pay Commission award and the next. Thirdly, the Govt does not even bother to raise interest for PPF or PF, yet it can find crores to pay its babus at any time, obviously because the guys who quote these figures are the babus themselves. Finally,is it worth rewarding such corrupt guys?

Goverment officers efficiency Act
by rajanikanth nayak on Aug 16, 2008 05:22 PM

There is a need for a government servant efficient Act. there should be a predetermined time frame alloted to each and every task in the government offices and there should be monitoring of files with strict punishment for not completing the work on time or incentive for meeting targets. there should also be an appeals system. In case any case is refused for any reason, the structure should be setup to ensure no unfairness occurs. with something like this in place corruption may be reduced.

yes it is true.one can see the efficiency in any pvt bank, unless you are a big (i.e.deposit lots of money),you are not counted as a human being.and see the min deposit amount in the so called efficient pvt banks.so 60% of the population are not allowed to approach these banks.Utter discrimination and their service everyone knows. Also,go to any software company, even if you want to meet any of your friend, they tell you lots and lots of rules and verifications. And none of these so called responsible ,accountable and efficient pvt co people never go for any election duties to places where naxalite or terrorists or goondas rule the roost and is there any incident where aany pvt co employee lost a life in the discharge of their duties. And regarding corruption what about rampant corruption in the recruitment done by the hr deptts of software cos. There is no CBI for this type of frauds in the pvt cos.And a govt employee is readily caught for accepting rs 50 which is offered by the people to get their things done out of the way.First let all these honest and responsible accountable pvt co people decide to do duty for the country instead of just blaming the govt always.
