rising prices
by Jitendra pathak on Apr 16, 2008 10:10 AM

i am surprised that all of sudden all the parties have started showing concern over price rise. While the prices of commodities have not increased in a single day. It seems "dal main kuchh kala hai".

RISING PRICES
by VENKATARAMAN RAMACHANDRAN on Apr 16, 2008 10:06 AM  | Hide replies

Anything stopped. Everyone is enjoying everything. Go to the market, it is fully crowded in textile shops/jewellery shops/car sales are increasing/people are buying everything. This means, people have lot of money but they are only grumbling about the price increases, as they are concerned about their savings. Most of the people get their salaries adjusted as and when the cost of living increases. Anybody has sacrificed anything - observed at least one time fasting per week in the interest of those who are starving and contributed the saving to them. Politicians are just talking, for the sake of votes. Everybody, including the CPM leaders, eats three or even four full course of meals with good deserts every day; people should not carried away by these dramas. If there is an increase in the cost of living, resist yourself from buying expensive items; save whatever possible; go for the best offer items and sacrifice little comforts. Observe one day in a week without sugar, one day without salt, and one day without rice. This is good for your health as well as wealth. Take advantage of the present situation, and bring discipline to your life, which will result in reduced medical expenses in future. Also, people should organize themselves in developing mini-coops, by buying in bulk and save the middle-men/ overheads of showroom expenses etc.

Hi venkat,

I dont understand what you are trying to mean. Do you mean the poor people go to car shop and buying car? Do you mean the poor people goes to textile industry, jewellery shop and all? if price rises on jewellery and car who bothers about that and indeed those prices are falling and not raising. We are talking here about the food. Dont think only the demand increases is the cause. The supply of food product are also fell short. Dont u think the supply has to be increased? Dont u think the agriculture has to be promoted and had to be given more weightage?

The problem is purely because of non-promotion of agriculture in india. The farmers and their products were not being properly paid. Big farmers are plundering the small farmers. Their interest were not safeguarded properly and they are not ready to agriculture any more.

I do not know much on this subject. I could see even the big Agriculturists are becoming richer day by day and the farmers are getting all facilities from the Government. Even they do not want their to do the dirty work in the field, and they want their children to become software professionals and sending them to Engineering Colleges. I know one farmer from my Village had sent his three children to the Engg College and two of his children working in Cognizant and the other one at Wipro. If you remember a few months before, projecting the expected increase in the price of commodities, some of the mutual funds have promoted specific funds for Agri products. There is enough in India, but the products are now under the control of hoarders and traders, who will release the items in a slow and steady manner, waiting for the increase in prices so that they can get maximum profit. It is an artificial shortage.
I have seen poor people in India; but most of them are poor because they are not guided properly and they waste their time, and lazying around instead of working and do whatever work come in their way. Moreover, when they are driven to the extreme level of poverty, we are sure the situation will change, when they will start working with a vengeance to become rich. I was in such a situation 36 years before, and today, by Gods Grace, I have enough and doing something for the under-privileged regularly.

What you are pointing out maybe applicable to only a small group of people. But on the whole, the farmers are dying because they have huge debts and they cant pay back. Forget that, they dont even get their daily bread. This loan waiver doesnt benefit many farmers as many farmers take loans from the local land lords and they arent generous enough to waive off the loan. Yes, funds are getting allocated for promoting agriculture, but those funds go into the pockets of the corrupt politicians & the middlemen. So unless some drastic changes take place, i dont think this situation will improve. If agriculture doesnt improve, then there is no use of a booming economy. The rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

High handed minister

I cant understand this finance minister. the whole nation is worried about rising prices and he is not ready to open his mouth. perhaps he forgot that he lives in democracy. he is first answerable to the people who elected and then to all those cabinet and parliament. i saw him being interviewed by a lot of channels after the budget and he gave me the impression of a very high handed and adamant person. he needs to be more humble like MMS or advani

The Rising prices are just the Last Loot by the UPA Govt and Congress before it loses power.

Congress always makes the prices rise before elections to finance its election budgets. It loots the poor man and then pays for his vote.

Poor fellows of India ...!!!

Subsidies oil price and grow more food products to curb inflation.
by Loga on Apr 15, 2008 07:12 PM  | Hide replies

Subsidies oil price and grow more food products to curb inflation.
Impact of high oil prices, which affect agricultural costs directly because of the significance of energy as an input in the cultivation process itself through fertiliser and irrigation costs as well as in transporting food. The high price of oil is hitting consumers' wallets with each trip to the gas station or grocery store.
India imports five lakh tonnes of wheat and other food products from other countries.
Australia exports 12.2 percent and Canada 13.2 percent of world wheat exports. Now because of the 2 Consecutive droughts in Australia and Canada in place of export they are importing wheat from other countries.
Prices of all essential commodities are rising not just in India but across the world due to a fall in supply. Inflation has spiralled all over the world.
One of the most lasting cause of higher food prices is certainly population growth. As countries such as China and India grow and prosper, they are consuming a greater share of the world's food. Prosperity affects how much people eat and what they eat.
