DTH & CABLE
by sanjeev kulkarni on Apr 09, 2008 10:25 AM

Normally u req. 10/15chnls to watch not more .Cablewala though charge 300/400 in posh areas u can get it 60Rs. by bargain. If govt. reduces entertainment tax then u will have to pay less.So cablewalas are better till Abhitabh looks like Abhitabh & Raj Thakre lokks like Raj.Don't bother fraudulent lossesunless & untill u they offer 50Rs./conn.

I really hope, when TATA comes in, it doesn't only emphasis on low cost, but the problems that customer's of existing DTH service's are facing, like pathetic customer care, high monthly cost, low warranty, non-flexible progm package's and many other trivial issue's.

Every customer not only want it to be light on pocket, but light on the mind itself.

I hope TATA take care of all these.

DTH
by sunil bhatia on Apr 09, 2008 10:11 AM  | Hide replies

TRAI has asked the DTH providers to charge per channel opted by a subscriber. Almost 5 months have passed since this direction was given but DTH providers are have not done so. This move will bring down the monthly cost to a low level. Similarly, TRAI also directed the providers to give such set up boxes which can be used for receiving the signals of each DTH provider. At present the set up box of Tata Sky can not be used to receive the siganls of Dish TV. Surprisingly both have petitioned to the government against this direction. I feel by the e3nd of year consumer will be in a better positon to watch what it wants and pay less for the same. There is no doubt that the system is far better then local cablenetowrk.

local bable n/w are better in their customer service, at least my experience say's so. You call them and in 2 hrs they are at ur place, to give better pic quality or no. channels.

Even payment time is flexible, 2-5 or 10 days updown doesn't bother them.

And u can always threat them of exiting their services ,if they dont provide better service. Infact if group of 20 ppl in the locality stand for it, they provide each n every requested channel for same cost.

This is where cable are far better.

As far as quality of picture is concerned, gud installation gurantee's u that

but ya ..some cable guyz show monopoly and but then again, same with these DTH operators.

Loss is only for saying!
by Gaurav Gupta on Apr 09, 2008 09:56 AM  | Hide replies

Like reliance when they entered in cellular market all other players are not afraid of Reliance they are afraid of loosing their profits over profits. Once a time Airtel is charging incoming and outgoing chrges at Rs 32 per min. and now Rs.0.50 per min. Thus the operating cost at that time and now a days are same but the difference is their errosion of their profits over profits. Can any body have answer how relaince is at entry level able to give call rate at Rs.1.00per min and other's after 9 years are not able to do so? for all this we have to think which is right and which is wrong, indication about 1000 crores losses by dish tv and tata sky is only for getting soft corner from govt. Wait for Reliance to enter in this market and thus see the difference

Well Said Mr. Das,
If they are providing the set top boxes at subsidised rates what were their advisors / mgmt doing at the time of taking such a decisions. It is obivious thing that you cannot manufacture a thing @ 100 /- & sell it for 50/-.If some body had approved such a decision then he his a big fool.
Secondly where has the govt. subsidy gone?

These corporates are real cheats.

Yes, rightly said...
Let them incur those losses, who cares?? Actually they would have made up for future inconsistencies in the profits that they make in the initial stages. Anyway this is a world where the fittest will survive..as long as the competitors are INDIANS..

Thanks Vineet, but the person living in Vietnam is not able to watch any Indian paid channels even we have local Set Top Boxes. We are only able to watch the free Indian channels with the help of LOCAL SET TOP BOX and installing big parabol discs on our roof tops.
Do any Indian DTH companies have any solutions in this regard ?

RE:DTH services out of India
by Aneesh on Apr 09, 2008 10:31 AM
That is not possible Manik. One reason is the coverage of transmission satellite. DTH services are being provided through INSAT and INSAT is meant for India and neighbouring countries. If they want to cover more countries, they have to aquire more satellites and that will cost a huge amount. Second reason is the broadcasting law of a particular country. It is not allowed to receive and watch any outside channels through a DTH service in any country. Only free to air channels are allowed. For example, Indian DTH services cant be used in gulf countries as per their laws eventhough Gulf region is covered by INSAT satellites.

TATA SKY IS NO 1 THIEF
by AMITABH on Apr 09, 2008 09:32 AM  | Hide replies

Tata sky is the biggest fraud(I cant comment on DISH). They are fooling customers by saying that u can choose what to watch but its not the case. U have to take their offered package only whether u see all the channels in the package or not. Then for every new channel they will say take an add on package. So in the end your bill comes to 500 in case u want to see all good channels. I think they gave lots of money to the govt because of which govt made it compulsary in some areas. Cable is much better.
I have asked their call cantre many times that if what they are saying is PAY FOR WHAT U WANT TO SEE then please let me know the charges for each channel. They simply refuse and their call cantre is worst than a Red light area. I tool it thinking its a TATA product but am sorry its just SHIT.

You are right anupam it will be dirt cheap remember the reliance mobile even that started dirt cheap and now people are afraid of taking reliance phone because of the monthly bill they charge they cheat with each n every bill let the big tv come in they will sell off cheap and then people will cry for taking it they raise the charge which will touch the sky. RELIANCE are the BIGGEST CHEATERS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN THE MARKET worst than THE WHITE SKIN.

Dish alignment charges are almost the same for DISHTV. The technician charges that much, not the company. They just pass it on to customer. Yes the warranty and AMC are ploys of fleecing customers not just in DTH but any other industry also.

Dish TV losses
by floyd floyd on Apr 09, 2008 09:26 AM  | Hide replies

Dish Tv is combining ETV Urdu for every regional group package you select thus compulsorily imposing Urdu and Islamic propaganda on all dish TV subscribers. Therefore many subscribers have boycotted dish tv. Dish TV should change its policy. Otherwise Raj Thackaeray's MNS party will justifiably target Dish TV offices. In fact In Mumbai, if you are a begali you can opt either for Bengali regional group or Marathji regional group. You cannot opt for both. However whether you opt for Bengali or Marathi, you will get ETV Urdu. Thus DishTv is making Islamic propaganda compulsory for everyone. Unless you want to become Jehadi, don't subscribe to Dish TV
