Dalmianagar--Dehri
by ANINDA GHOSH on Apr 08, 2008 01:58 PM

When I first visited the place, I was amazed at the huge set up that had to close down. We were explained , the total Air conditioning system used 2 run on waste gases. I 'm surprised, the same Dalmia Cement, in so many of their new projects, can reintroduce that concept of integrated plants, wherein wastages shall generate requisite energy. In many guest houses of AV Birla Group, solar power is used as fuels. Also , in colonies. GOI should give 150% tax dedn, then most cos shall use solar power extensively in offices & colonies.

Can human waste be used as Energy?
by your amre on Apr 08, 2008 05:21 AM  | Hide replies

If Human excreta can be used as energy, India will be the largest producer of renewable source of energy. Mumbai will be the power capital as Mumbai will produce 1000 Mwatss of power every morning

I am writing in this forum assuming that the readers are mostly IT people.
Can we start bringing 1 cup of rice / wheat / dals to office every friday or monday and collect it in a veseel ( 1 for rice / 1 for daal and 1 for wheat ) and then give away it in charity every week? Just 1 cup. Imagine 1500 employees bringing 100 grams of rice will be 1500 kgs every week. Enough to feed poor and orphans. It won't pinch any one to bring 100 gm or grain every week and would result in lots of benifit.
Please consider this and implement it in company you are working for.

Buddy your idea is good & can be implemented else where other than India. Trust me, people do not know the value of something when its given free. They have an initial craze, but then it increases laziness, which then becomes their right & they'll start demanding for these if they start getting lesser quantity & demand for more or worst case, smile, take from you, give you their useless blessings, sell it outside, make money & start drinking methanol!!!
Instead I would say, give an employment to someone, make him realise that you work you get money & make a living. One such idea could be to hire 2/3 college students who are poor, give a rentless room, pay them, instead ask them to start a tuition centre. Collect the money from the students, use the little money to pay off for your electricity bills spent during Tuition hours & the remaining pay off to the students. If something needs to lose value - just create a lot of supply & it loses it value.

Hi N!

It is a great suggestion and can certainly be followed. The school I studied, used to collect one cup of rice every friday and distribute to the needy every sunday. It was a successful idea.

Regards,
Shan

Were you aware where the rice & other things went after donation? To the needy's stomach or the greedy hands?

If urging others to consider giving 100 gm of grains every week is begging then let it be.
I don't know what kind of a person would repsond to my humble request.
Couple of years back people living in villages of Thane district died of starvation only 60 km away from Mumbai.
People in the city spend several thousands just to loose weight while people dying of starvation and comitting suicide because of lack of means to feed their families.
spending 100 gm every week is within everyone's reach and several like minded people in big companies can definitely make significant difference and hopefully no fellow indian would die because of starvation.

N, your suggestion is touching. Forget the idiots who make stupid statements. They are not human and that's the best you can expect from them. If this suggestion is implemented in right earnest, we can help millions of our underprivileged brethren.

Ridiculous argument and Meaningless article

How the author can compare a hardware company that generates a lot of e-waste with Indian software companies? If he compared Accenture, then it might have make some sense.

Also, going Green is not just for Computer related industries. It is for all industries, offices (including government offices that waste a lot of energy) and firms.

Also, before going too much Green, there are many ways to save the energy usage and cut transmission losses etc.

Biased...

This could definitely be something for all (not just IT) companies to learn from Dell, but Dell wasn't the first one to do this; Dell followed the steps of its rival HP.

I really suspect if the "true" motivation behind Dell going green. It could partly be "saving the globe", but a bigger motivation as I see is the competition (HP and others), and creating more value for its share holders through gains in bottom-line (to talk about savings of over $2M).

And then there are things which companies should NOT learn from Dell. Did you miss the news related to accounting irregularities and SEC investigations at Dell, dear author?

Why IT companies?

It is one thing to laud DELL and another to challenge Indian IT companies!!! Why talk about only IT companies??? It applies to all energy consuming offices. Please write constructively and avoid sensationalizing. And rediff editors, please read before you upload the features and news items.

You are right. Due to US recession they need new technology to survive that is why they came up with the global warming issues. They can create more and more job oppening in the new field to survive. That is the technology US is using to capture everybodies attention.Everything is of no use.How many Abdul kalams are created from the indian soil eventhough it is so.. polluted.Where you can find air without polution? Somebody will tell in foriegn countries. Their you can see the air with full of chemicals. So indian pollution is better than others. My kid was born very healthy and strong but after 4years back the Drs. made her an asthma patient by inducing lot of medications. Eventhough Iam living in a well developed country with all modern technologies. So don't worry about pollution it will always improve your immunity power.I was in India for 30 years and I spend 10 years outside the country.Anyway my body survived 10 years due to my good immune system. Now Iam feeling so bad,so I came back to India. My family is very healthy now. But onething Iam scared was that indian govt. is introducing more western style healthcare programs in india definitely it will affects all the indians health in future. In my opinion people have to decide what we need and what not.

U are the most stupid person alive in this planet and no wonder, U are Indian!! We Indians have this biazzare thinking that pollution provides better immunity. Who the hell on earth, gave your this stupid knowledge? If pollution gives U better immunity, live in nuclear waste cities of eastwhile USSR and you will realize where you immunity is. Indians need very strong healthcare system--we don't have any health care system whatsoever in the country today. Its all couple of good hospitals in couple of metropolitan cities. India as a country will doom very soon in health care and no doubt people like you are living in this country.

i bet u ppl are not part of the it industry. it cos make huge profits from us bcos it companies earn money by billing ppl. and they pay their employees 20% of the billing amount. we work hard and expect to be paid well. move over old ppl, the young generation of india expect to be paid well for their good work.

So you go ahead, take risk, start a new company & start providing all your employees equal shares. Will you do it? Trust me, by the time you start earning in Lakhs, you'll only pay in 100's - This is sad truth.
