by AR on Sep 03, 2007 12:22 AM

There's lot of discussion taking place on this board on whether organised retail player's like reliance, walmart, spencer's shld be allowed to operate in India or not??Many of them have pointed the pros and cons!!
But this news article was enough to convince me why it was needed!!

Go On ! Open as many chain fresh food stores. You can omit Smaller towns from setting up such chains since most of the sellers there are direct farmers and it is worse to take away food from their mouth. But in cities sure it is going to create a healthy competition.
Finally, put PMK Ramdoss and his son in jail for agitating against the chain stores and supporting local brokers and goons.Govt. need to address this problem to regain confindence in their policies.

Simple fact is most traditional traders are breaking the law.
1.They hide their true turnovers. They do not pay any tax.
2.They encroach on public spaces like footpaths/roads.
3.They don't pay minimum wages to their labour
4. They generate black money and live comfortably after making money for themselves

My sincere appeal to all - Do not make any cash payments to these traders. Pay through credit card/debit card so that they are forced to account the business. I am sure most of them refuse to accept cards. Please move on to shops that accept them. This will reduce black money.

The more you pay by credit cards, you will get a letter from IT department. Keep all the bills, so that when the IT dept. raises queries, you can show them after three years.

Funny Mr Ramani Ganesh. Pay by cash and get rid of all unnecessary hazzles. Why do we have to do the work of IT dept. Let them do for what they earn.

When Reliance starts these stores it is the poor people who get a steady job in the farms, distribution centres, transporting and in ths stores. They will not be exploited as much by the unscruplous traders and middlemen as happens now.

India is a poor country.People living below poverty line also can afford food grains and vegetables for daily consumption. With Reliance and other Big giants comeing in for retails will make our poor die of Hunger, as these food items will be directly procured from Field itself never come in open market for sale....

Poor consumers are not going to suffer b'cos of reliance It is the middle men who earn max returns without any sweat and generate more and more black money will suffer. These midle men rarely pay any taxex. Since these people are the main contributors to politaical parties th epolitician are crying foul. U know the stree and small vendor earns very little almost a tiny fraction of the middle men?

The farmers are being exploited by the middle men and it is they who make exorbitant profits at the cost of the middlemen. This was the message conveyed by Dr Verghese Kurien to Mrs Indira Gandhi when she was alive and she had posed a question as to why the prices of the vegetables were exorbitant in the cities while the produce when sold by the farmers at village levels or in mandals were at 1/4th the price of the same produce sold in the towns. This was what led to the market intervention operation by Mother Dairy in New Delhi way back in the mid 1980s. Even today the farmers are being paid a pittance while it is the middlemen who make enormous profits. If the likes of Reliance Fresh or Spencers were to procure directly from the farmers, they would be a far better lot.

Nitin this kind of attitude if we all have then some one like british will come to rule us again.
Learn to think of big gains rather than your personal gains/losse.
Have attitude of giving to society rather than asking from society again.
