2) Use minimal of cars, use public transport
3) For short distances, walk
4) Use minimum electricity. Save electricity
5) Use solar power where possible..
6) Think of alternative like Reva (electic car) and for everthing use alternative to petrol and diesel
7) Less petrol / diesel, less import, india grows more faster
8) stable economy, stable environment, your children and grand childern with good life
9) Plant lots of lots of trees. Encourage school childern to plant more trees.

Maybe Mr.Bush can help us there.

going green is difficult for the business houses
by slash on Nov 27, 2007 11:54 AM

shell, exxon, BP, chevron, petronas, yukos, ongc, etc. are a few of the hundreds of companies that are only into oil and control the market & the geopolitics behind it. when a world leader like george bush and his side-kick dick cheney are heavily invested into oil, you know that the direction of the oil companies will not change. also contributing to this is the "american" way of life - they project the ideal way to live - cheap gas, gas guzzling monsters, wasteful packaging and fast life - you have a recipe for disaster with the rest of the world follwing them.

Go Green

I wonder why still people are thinking of digging deeper instead of looking at an alternative energy source, which will be friendly with the environment??

I feel talking about exploring more fossil fuel is a SIN and it should be stopped with immediate effect.

If the attitude of people change there wont be any such problem. I use my car to visit a relative who is half a kilometer away and it takes half a liter of fuel in modern worlds traffic. If I am going to walk this distance I am going to save around 182 liters a year and think of million people doing the same thing.

Regardless it is easier to say than done. Its time for everyone to create self awareness and act on it with immediate effect.

India is looking for Europ or other country for alternate of crude oil. We don't have policy to encourage the R & D. Indian are consumers.

Because its cheaper to dig deeper than to look for alternative sources.

We should go to the CORE of EARTH and tap the energy of the core!! Its just 1600 KM deep! This is oil wells future!

We need to mature from this kind of argument.

We have a huge population. If everyone can switch off their electricity usage by 5 mins everyday, we can save a huge electricity.

Please think over

I completely agree with you. Perhaps understanding of the imminent danger of exploiting fossil fuels is non-existent with masses, that includes so call educated folks like you and me. And even in an unlikely event of having the adeqaute knowledge of the danger, we are too active to do anything about it. We simply forget about the thought by saying "ek aadmi ke mahaan banne se kya hoga" (an individual's taking up the cause will yield nothing). Secondly, we find ourselves so much dependent on fossil fuels - the cars we drive, the generators we power, the trucks and buses our businesses depends on, the electricty without which we cannot imagine living in the planet, and so on. Thirdly, all the industries in general discourage public debate on this issue. This will shelve their plans to grow. All industries depend heavily on fossil fuels. Changing gears will certainly derail their plans. Fourthly, the success in alternative fules is miniscule, and restricted to very few beneficiaries. We can tackle the challenge either by reducing our consumption or provide more at same consumption levels. Obviously, in the immediate term the former seems the only possibility to protect the planet with minimal damage. We have much more reasons to exploit the nature than to do otherwise. I think sensing the danger in a more profound way is the only way to create awareness and some positive action. It will require lot of sacrifice from us, as individuals and as society. Are we really up for it?

dear mr. philip
try to understand v dont live in a world of charity....everyone thinks of one's own business. looking for alternate sources ws not taken properly some years back....why ? money wz the question, now that same thing is cheap coz it'll replace oil which is at very high prices. so if u get oil from tar sands @ $ 55/bbl then its affordable today bt wz uneconomical 5 yrs back coz of huge R&D costs.
similarly big E&P companies extracting oil out of 10km from deep-sea also want to supply more of oil as the same process wz not profitable when il wz @ $ 50/bbl.they kn make more money toady. in any xcase any oil coming out of hidden places will help as it'll lessen the OPEC show & will diversify the sources for us. heavy crude selling @ $ 60/bbl from Venezuala cud b a happy news bt lets c when....
in any case fossils will continue to rule the energy needs for years to come...any other alternative will take years & R&D costs to start feeding the energy needs of pple.

Hi immature tanuj,

pls grow up..are u illiterate on global warming and its immediate consequences, which is the hottest debate in the world today ?! which requires immediate action before it becomes irreversible..and it already is irreversible..

the point is using alternative energy sources such as green sources are "not for others"..it is not charity..it is for bl**dy yourself and your family and your children...

the planet is in a state of emergecy NOW..does anyone care? well, if you dont care, then dont imagine that only your great grand children will get affected..the consequences are so immediate that we ourselves are going to get affected..and we already have seen major climatic chaos in the world..and i wouldnt be surprised if one of us dies in that climatic chaos.

it is the greatest threat that mankind has ever faced..

its high time to react!

at 1st learn to write properly mr. praveen
it looks u r the most illiterate of the bunch contributing in the coloumn.
try to get into the gist of my statements.
put urself on the side of the oil companies & the alternate energy R&D companies. u wud have certainly done wat they r doing now, bt certainly doing all these things wz not possible 10 yrs. back coz oil wz cheap & no other alternative wz needed as that wud have been expensive to put into use for the public.
were u sleeping at that time.....u shud have come out of ur hiding to speak in favor of alternate energy at that time only.
so think camly now & then write.
wat do u think is happening to coal.
our economists still prefer coal over other sources. why? its the price dear.
why IPI pipeline is not coming up. its the price dear.
so v r back to the economies of supply-demand.
the core issue is it wz never before economical than today to invest in alternate energy or deeep-sea oil..v have incentives today to gat into that business.
bt i never said there is no roo for alternate energy, bt the reality is it'll take good time & the volumes it kn replace of fosil fuels is very miniscule. so that 'll mean v 'll still live on fossils.
now 1st check ur facts & then reply back.
its all economies of demand & supply dear.
