Mumbai crumbling due to Central Government's apathy...
by Rakesh on Nov 17, 2007 10:54 PM

Although it may be music to Mumbaikars' ears that their city has a lot of billionaires, we should not forget that quality of life in Aamchi Mumbai has deteriorated significantly in the last two decades.

The central government while greedily taking the taxes generate by corporate Mumbai refuses to grant anything worthy for the cause of uplifting living conditions. Year after year there is talk of converting Mumbai to a "global" financial center, but the city is so choked and dirty that even getting to your workplace 5 kms away is a nightmare. Nightmare not in one way but multiple ways.

Everyday tens of thousands continue to pour into Mumbai from the incredibly impoverished states of UP and Bihar. Combine that with the central government's apathy, and it is not hard to see why you see slums without proper sanitation.

In my opinion, people should jailed for pissing and pooping in public. Sure in the beginning the people will yell and scream discrimination against the poor etc, but guess what - tough luck. Just because you are poor doesn't give you the birthright to poop on railway tracks.

My fellow Mumbaikars, it is high time we all woke up! Make Mumbai cleaner. Make Mumbai greener! Or else even our grandchildren will have to walk through the streets lined with pooping poor kids while the polluted air chokes them.

Mr. Nair,
If any of your close relative is being blasted of in a train/bus, you would realise who should be nominated. India needs a leader like Modi whose priority is development of the state.

It looks like you are from Bengal and your thinking process so dominated by commies!!!!! If not for these rich people, everyone in India would be working in government offices and we would have been no better than Bangladesh or Nepal. These guys create millions of jobs every year and hence please appreciate them.

Billionaires generate millions of jobs, without which poverty levels in India will grow significantly. Do not ignore the power of capitalism.

poor remaining poor has nothing to do with millionaire/billionaire
by Chanakya on Nov 15, 2007 06:23 PM

suicides and poor remaining poor has nothing to do with millionaires or billionaires.. that is the direct reflection of the corruption at the government.
a simple question is: where does the tax paid by the millionaires/billionaires and common man goes.... where does the budgetted and sanctioned amounts of specific projects and programmes for upliftment of the poor goes...
it is just corruption, corruption and corruption by the babus and elected representatives.
I bet there are hundreds of billionaire politicians in INdia whose wealth is not reflected in the books et all.
common man's tax is channalised in to the pockets of babus and politicians

Hey buddy

There is always some use in this information.
For Dawwod Ibrahim, and other criminals the list of rich people is always useful for knowing to target for extortion , kidnapping, etc.

For the Income Tax Chidamabarm has directions to keep growing the list for raids, show cause notices , either to unearth genuine black money or to force them to spend huge "under the table" money for settling the cases. Most of this money will go back to the ministers and politicans.

System works like this -

Income Tax Commissioner will pay Rs.1 crore for a good posting.
This he will pay in instalments to the minister who has recommended him. How? Simple. Out of the money of each case settled.

THIS HAPPENS IN CUSTOMS , EXCISE, ETC

wealth creation by manipulation
by Chanakya on Nov 15, 2007 05:39 PM

60% of their wealth is only manipulating the networth of their companies, creating a hype in the stock exchange, overcharging on subscription at the time of IPO etc. If you really do an indepth audit of these firms, their networth would become less than half.

Common man and Poor mens trapped by rich and wealthy businessman
by mike on Nov 15, 2007 05:37 PM  | Hide replies

righly pointed. and such a proud moment for us indian to see that our man ambani and mittal scoring head and shoulder above others nationals in becoming rich and wealthy. We indian should we not BE SO PROUD of them as one among us.
How we are cheated and trapped by this wealthiest and wealthiest of all of us. Take for eg. Ambani and Sunil Mittals. They bring in mobile to ur hands and it is so cheap. As an when this mobile are increased day by day in the hands of poor and commoner, they think, MAN so Cheap! lets use the the service , the call rates are so less, AND MAN THIS BIZNESS MAN is laughing ALL THE WAY TO THE BANKS, TAKING good amount of ur hard earned money from u and me. the money which should been dutifully spend for ur household needs and for ur child, is now being SIFTED to this Telecom giants. Why could u not have tried and invested that small fortune for u to do business and grow up. STOP THIS NONSENSE and see this rich will GO BEGGING and you in turn start become richer. High Time, my friends.

HOPE,TRUST,CONFIDENCE
CONFIDENCE:
1 Day all villagers decided to pray for rain.
On the day of prayer all people gathered & only one boy come with umbrella. THAT'S CONFIDENCE.

TRUST:
Trust should be like feeling of a 1 year old baby, when you throw him in the air, he laughs....because he know you will catch him...

HOPE:
Every night we go to bed, have no assurance to get up alive in the next morning but still we have many plans for coming day...

KEE
