RE:Am I eligible to get H1 B???
by saurabh shah on May 25, 2007 09:47 AM
Ofcourse! Cap of 2007 has been finished. Try out your luck in 2008..............
In my opinion after personally experienced US life for sometime and returned back etc...I can say one thing for sure, which is H1-B program would be useful for H1-B coders would find this program useful so long they are not married or as in some cases, both husband and wife are working in US.
Gone are the days where head of the household goes to US first and later pull other dependents to US.
If you have kids (esp more than one)unless your household income exceeds $120K PA, living in US providing quality life-style would be really difficult.
If you are NOT planning to marry (I mean, forever!) and if you earn somewhere around $60K-70K you may able to survive without much problems in US.
Does anybdy has any idea on whether this cap hike is going to impact the 2007 H1b? if yes, then what happens to the rejected applications for this year? do they need to refile? any reliable source is really appreciated.

I guess the results are already out for accepted application. The ones which got rejected will have to file it again next year.

Hi you can Re-apply when Cap re-opens this year. You application is not selected in lottery thats it. So you can re-apply when cap extends.
I agree that in US taxes are higher, but still you can save $1500-2000 per month if you leave in rented place and I bought 4bd house within 2 years in US. Can I buy that in India? No ways.

Shane What is your salary? What is the breakdown of your monthly expenses? What is the size of your family? Let us start with that and then try to understand how you manage to do all that.

but if US stops outsourcing jobs to india, who is going to repay the loans? start creating jobs rather than depending on some country.
The pastures are greener on the other side of fence same is with US. Its not better than India in any way for the educated people like u who have the ability to do anything, no dout its heaven for low educated and for labor class. I came to US with same notion and then realised my blunder, anyway I am am coming back to India, so i dont lose my right to post here. I hope no one from India will agree with me but they all including me agree to this bitter fact when they are in US. God bless India

I am in Us for last 3 yrs ... I agree with this ....but to some extent ... I am sure we all know as far as talent goes..Indian professionals are much better ... but again ... as far as standard of living goes .. I prefer to be in US .. In India too ...I was on high salary but my personal life was screwed up ...I used to work for 12 hrs a day catering US and Europe clients ! here atleast I dont have to work extra hours ...if so i get paid accordingly ! I get appretiated for my hardwork here unlike the competetions in Indian IT companies.
Long story short...I dont intend to stay in this country forever...but I feel I can be financially more strong earning in dollars than in Rupees. (Atleast I can afford a 1000sq apartment in Mumbai when I return back)

No offense meant, would you get the same pay like that of US? Can you lay hands on the latest technology first hand? Would you be working on projects not being in Off shore teams? Can you become an entrepreneur without bribing?
RE:H1B
by Bala Kondepudi on May 24, 2007 10:47 AM
Every thing other than the below is possible in India. Can you become an entrepreneur without bribing?
You have to be in US to believe that this country has there own drawbacks. But coming here is problem in itself. It is no different than INDIA, same inefficient people same lethargy and dowubtful attitude for brown skin. The difference is fake smile which every American carries even while telling You that You are going to be screwed in Insurance, Bank, Medical & Car expenses. Counterpart Indians would just be lazy bums and we can scream at them, You wont have that luxury here. If You can work in US in McDonalds why cant we do that in India. Down the line people realize real wealth is not money but Children, who are really confused. Its not children's fault too, they are going to become like kids in school.
Lakshmi Mittal didnt need UK citizenship to be billionaire, just HARDWORK. If you dnt do that in US You end up screwing hard time. So people please, dont look for H-1, You can create better future in INDIA looking next 10 years than in US with confused kids.

Hey...He should be in the US and probably he is giving his experiences of the situaton he is facing and also the Indians in the US. Everything looks green from here in India, but u actually know the reality when u r out there. So Gaurav, I think u are just ommiting ur frustration dude !!!!

I totally agree with Pranav. I'm in US for the past 4 years and whatever he said it true to 100 percent. I'm seriously thinking abt going back to india. believe me you wont be able to save anything here. you dont have a life too. India rocks

by Mohit Jain on May 23, 2007 07:58 PM
Then go back man. And PRANAY, I agree with Gaurav. If you are in the USA, you should not say this. You should say this only if you have come back from India. TISE, I dont think Gaurav is venting his frustration. His point is that people in the USA say India is good. I agree, INDIA IS THE BEST, but then people should be back in India before saying this shit.

Hay,
Lot of discussion is going on my post. Please note that I just commented on MONEY factor. Not the quality of life or some thing else which are debatable and varies person to person priorities.
General expense in US goes like this For New H1B candidate avg salary 60K Average cost in 2nd class cities/states for a Family of 3 (2A,1C) with One person income.
Rent: 600 -- single bed, 750 double beds (basic apartment and good neighborhood) Utilities (Electricity, water, gas, sewage and like that, washer/drier) 150
Internet & land line & cable 80 Mobile   ; 45 India call expenses 40
Medical Insurance (Medical/ dental/vision) from ur pocket 250 Co pays/ medicines/ uncovered medical expenses 75 (avg)
Car payment (old average Honda/Toyota car) 200 Car insurance   ; 100 Petrol   ; 80
Shopping -- Wal-Mart (a cheap store for regular usage stuff) and Desi store for Indian stuff (Per week 50 $ at Wal-Mart and 40 $ desi store) So per month 400 Now and then dining out 50
Basic kid expenses (dresses, toys, dippers like that) 50
And finally no crazy stuff at home , no crazy outing , no crazy sopping , no kid play school, no 2 cars, no India travel , no un expected expenses, no job less days, no no pay days and no this no that
PS : this information for basic life style. It may varies minus 10 % to plus 45 % depends upon life style.

Hi Durga,
If you have the above expenses and your salary is 60k, then i guess there is no point in living in US man..
I think it's time for you to go back..
Anyways, setting this aside,
I feel with sinking $ to Rupee value, now it will be more tough to be here. I have a NRI home loan, with the rise in rupee and interest rate i have to pay 15% more in dollar terms.
I am planning to sell the house. No choice.
But the only reason for living in US is infrastructure, less pollution, good weather, far from indian politics etc

For all you people there in India, dreaming of making it big in the US - let me tell you, its no big deal. It can be nice to be here for a while and see and learn how these guys run things, but again its no big deal. India despite its obvious drawbacks and take-it-easy attitude, is still a great place where opportunities abound and where you can make a difference, and feel proud, have a sense of belonging. Nothing can beat that feeling. When one is out of the country, you get to know what you are missing :-)

by gaurav singh on May 23, 2007 08:19 PM
I also agree, but not the way he is saying and same for Ramesis. Man, go back first and then say it. Why are you still in the USA then if you think India is good. Go there, live the good life and help India be a Superpower soon.

guys.. i hv been in the US for last 3 yrs.. i have faced lots of difficulties here.. life is not as easy as u think here.. ppl hv to do a lot of unecessary hard work..
as pranay rightly pointed out, the Americans always carry a fake smile with them. they never believe us.. inefficiency is at its peak in this country.. ppl never go out of their way to help others.. i hear from my friends back home that India is booming now.. if u want to have the luxuries that life could offer, stay back..
When I can get my visa stamped on my passport as I have already got the approval but the embassy has told me that I have to wait till July 2nd or Later.

If you have the I-129 (Notice of Approval) with you, you should be able to book for Visa interview any time. If this I-129 is booked for the period 2008 then you may need to wait till July because you cant any way go to US till Oct'2007!
