by Y Solomon Rajasekhar Reddy on May 03, 2007 11:09 AM  | Hide replies

All state governments should give free power to SC/ST/OBC for social upliftment. The discrimination should stop.

Nothing is 'free', there is a cost for all freebies which has to be borne by taxpayers - in effect, the whole nation pays.

Why social upliftment only for SC/ST? Why not the whole nation? I've travelled outside India, and we are far behind most nations because of lazy people like you who can't think beyond the barriers of caste / region / religion.

Power shortage
by Shridhar Iyer on May 03, 2007 10:53 AM

It is very unfortunate that the people of this country are not getting one of the important basic amenities of life, i.e. uninterrupted power supply. Barring a few State Electricy Boards, most of them are running on loss. You go for a round, and you will find most of the infrastructures are rusted, old transformers, aluminium wires, etc. which results in great distribution loss. On top of it, many consume electricity either for free or at a very cheap cost, due to illegal connections/tapping, or bribing the inspectors. Due to our vote bank policies, many State Govts compete with each to provide free electricity or at a very cheap price electricity to its farmers!. We dont want to privatise Electricity generation, and distribution, because you will then be not able to implement your vote bank policies!. We still depend upon outdate thermal, and coal based power generation plants. Naturally the people are the ultimate sufferers. Remember, the politicians come under VIP categories, and they are given uninterrupted power supply!.

Solutions, which appear to me:

No more free supply due to vote bank policies.

Create more and more nuclear power generation plants.

Wherever possible, privatise power generation, distribution activities.

Treat the State Elecy Boards as independent profit centres. Ask them to be on their own. Govt should not bear any of thier losses from public money.

Political appointments into State Electricity Boards must be stopped, and meritorious people should only be admitted, based on tests and interviews.

The above, I suppose, should give us a lot of relief if implemented in the right spirit.

With best wishes,
V.Srinivasan.

This is being a problem which is forseen a long time back by lot of experts .The Govt did not care about , instead were only interested in minority/majority appeasement .
This Govt is too emotional & falls prey for stupid sentiments .
We require a tough ,business like people to run the country , unfortunately none of the political parties have the cutting edge to run the country with one billion opinions

Power shortage, global warming
by Ram Sharma on May 03, 2007 10:44 AM  | Hide replies

the population of the country is increasing day by day. there is no serious effort to curb population growth.

the number of vehicles running on the road is also increasing, which in turn is increasing air pollution and global warming. similarly due to consumerism, the demand for different type of consumer goods increasing very fast.

the increase in population combined with highly increasing demand of consumer goods is playing havoc with the ecology. forests are getting depleted, air and water are geting polluted and sub soil water table is going down all over the country.

huge power shortage is also because of the above two reasons.

the best approach will be to push for one child norm vigorously like china. vote bank politics should not be allowed to come in the way. child marriage in villages are also to be curbed.

secondly people should be made to understand to live a simple life and not run after fashion and lot of money. money is necessary, but lot of money is useless. mukesh and anil ambani are not on talking terms despite huge money they have.

All I wanted to say is that we cannot have strict one child policy... ofcourse shouldn't be more than 2.
Also we have issues like waste management, in Brazil, they generate electricity from bio waste. We need to also promote alternative energy production, like Solar, Wind Energy, etc... the problem is that govt never gives incentives for these

shortfall is due to non implementation of expected future requirement, u crook. usa will entirely plunge us in debt. hopefuly u would have read that a week back, new york mayor had said that India has to pay huge amounts of money for housing India\'s UN personnel. While usa president himself had said that UN members nations can stay in New York without paying any charges. Proof of Double standards.. So we can never believe usa. Hence Without the approval of Indian Scientific and Strategist Community this deal CANT BE SIGNED. Got it u fool. Dont get provoked by difficulties. Bcoz thats its job use ur head. These media persons will publish the articles that will be demand of the situation but all for wrong reasons. Surprisingly even media is playing to the tunes of usa. go to hell u \"media mafias\"

And it will never happen.
The only soution to come out from this power crisis is give the Power sector operation to Private sector, like Tata, Relience etc.
Take out the control from the state level unit like MSEB, APEB.
Take out the control of Power handling from the politician. But our politicians will never allow to do this due to their vote bank.
