Chill Guys .. Time for retrospection..
by Dheeraj Goyal on May 11, 2007 10:51 PM

Guys .. tak sm time off to read the followin :

1) I thot a discussion forum is for some healthy interaction and not for mud slanging.

2) Those ready with an army against 'BINGO' and aftr its life .. I really hope they've tasted it atleast once and are not blabbering empty stomach / wasting away their unlmtd broadband connexn..

3) I dono why ppl are getin so defensive and are raging a war .. for godsake its just a product .. and here we r ready to disgrace one another's chindren, blame the IIT/IIMs for godknows nthing. You never know its just anthr marketing strategy and i vouch .. its pretty successfull .. U nevr kno wt these guys r upto.. nobdy can debate all this was conceived with a thorough markt research .. then why r we lesser mortals testin our gift of gabs makin 'BINGO' as a battleground..

4) For godsake .. take a new product with open arms .. givvit an opportunity to flaunt iteself .. try urslf rathr than forming a part of the herd mentality .. let it grow..
Im sure once U dont like it , nobdys gonna belt u to buy it against ur will..

Finally, dont create (atleast negative) hype against smthin thats cm to us ( an indian consumer so fond of variety and traditonal food) with an innocent flare .. its only fault being its tryin to tickle your rib ( maybe the wrong one this time .. but why horns effect?)

A humble request from one amongst you guys..
Lets discuss whts gud or bad, if bad .. why .. and wt cudve been dn better to make it acceptable yo you higher echelons ..

A (not so over-judgmental) critic
Dheeraj

Bingo......Good lingo..But....Bad....Product!!
by Rohit Dasan Maroli on May 05, 2007 01:14 PM

No doubt the ad campaign was tacky, and they have managed to make people recall and discuss Bingo...
I have had it and obviously comparisons are apparent between Bingo and Lays..
1) The quantity of chips inside a 10rs Bingo pack is less compared to a 10rs lays pack.Try it if u dont believe me!
2) The chips ar broken more in Bingo..where as in lays its more of whole chips!!
3) Crispiness and flavours taste good....but i think so many flavours and too much concepts are gonna work against the brand...You cant expect a customer to remember all in such a short time...they should have lanched 3 or 4 basic flavours...initialy....seen the response then possibly...introduced more flavours....
Lastly.....my friends....these are my comments....possible many of you might differ.....!! But overall I think ITC guys have managed to create a brand with decent recall.......How long it will last or the product will sell.....only time will tell....

The stupidest campaign in recent times...

Just can,t believe u guys have actually gone about writing on a ad campaign that is possibly one of the worst seen in recent years, and that from O&M.I think those guys need to be sacked. As for the Bingo range of snacks, they are actually rotting in the counters,nd nobody is buying them.Go check your facts before u make them public

I do not know about O&M or ad campaigns.

But just today I tried the Bingo Nimbu Achar flavoured chips from ITC. It rocks. Excellent, and innovative from ITC. My 8 year old niece too liked it very much. Its a hit.

ITC has seen the writing on the wall and changed over to FMCGs. Thats good.

But your write-up is just a joke. Something done by a junior reporter who copies from the companies handouts.

As mentioned earlier by Ajay Padmanabhan, while everyone else is thinking of junking junk food, here we have one of our bigger portals praying for its success.

This is an article about the business of snack-market. It doesnot deal with the health issues. You can voice your opinion in some health article. In business, speak business!

DOES NOT DEAL WITH HEALTH ISSUES ? WHY ?
Are we a country where the govt provides free healthcare and that too a good one ?

It;s called Khujli
by Ajay Padmanabhan on May 01, 2007 01:34 PM  | Hide replies

When you have a big B school Degree, a fat salary and a company with deep pockets and have nothing to do sitting all day at office this kind of reckless act will be repeated time and again. They never learnt from the debacle of BISCHIP, a stupid combination of biscuit and chips and even those days they claimed it as one of the path breaking inventions. And evey one knows about the fate of the product how it went down the drains after getting rotten in the shop shelves.
I dont think there is any point blaming rediff for bringing out this article. I am glad atleast this has given us a small platform to discuss about the pros and cons of this product.

When the whole world is talking about junking junk foods and educating the janta and children on better food habbits our guys in ITC are least bothered about it. Well being bothered about the health of others were never in their agenda. And its not the huge ads which makes a product sell, its all about quality and acceptance which the customer will decide. and todays customers are more concious and better informed and then there is no dearth of healthy alternatives and choices.

Well akshay for ur kind info I dont have a Big B school dgeree but I do employ a few with the Big B school degrees from India and abroad. As far as a fat salary is concerned u rightly said i dont get..I pay. And with my experience i understand that IIM doen't mean the world to me coz most of my successful friends has never been to this IIMs but still employ those labeled jokers.
And my simple understand is customer decides wht he or she wants..rest goes to the thrash.

AJAY,

Your comments remind me of ATLAS SHRUGGED...!!!
and JOHN GALT? Lets admit.. IIT & IIM grads are not only the best brains available in country but across the world. There are Bill Gates or Michael Dells in world who are school dropouts and have made it BIG (Ajay Padmanabhan may be the next one in making) but for every Bill Gates there are 10 CEO's ex IIT or ex IIM.
Give credit where it is due....!!!

Dude....get a break.....even in ur boasting comments u admit u had to pay up IIM grads for filling up ur bank accounts. so dont try to break other's glass houses. Each individual has a choice of buying or eating what he wants.....and he exercises these options....so whether ITC succeeds or not...ppl will decide...not u or i writing at this forum.......but i like ur boasting of IIM ppl....lol.....

Ad of Bingo a total junk
by pankaj sharma on May 01, 2007 01:14 PM  | Hide replies

While Bingo might taste good . I have yet to taste one the ads are a total flop. I am sure ITC would have carried out great research for their product and I could see the POPs everywhere but ads of BINGO are a total mismatch.

While I find Lays ads soothing and they have been able to develop a recalled tag line " No one can eat just one" Ads of bingo appear to be cluttered and clumsy. I belive that they should revamp their ads and come out with something soothing and creative which could be as good as their product.

bingo
by prakash vaidyanathan on May 01, 2007 12:56 PM

The article has been credited to Business Standard. Well, Bingo is an eyecatcher and has got marketing appeal. ITC is doing both vertical upward and downward integration in as much it would source materials from its agro division like wheat, vegetables etc and even oil. Its chefs have delivered the finished products. One area where ITC has to do its homework is "Health factor". Hydrogenated fats would be used in Bingo. How does that along with salts , preservatives etc. have a negative impact on the health of the younger generation namely heart, liver and kidney issues. The category would still be Junk food which one has to be careful to consume.
